I just learned - trial and error - that too much watermelon makes them lay soft-shelled eggs. I guess adding grit to their diet would help, or just giving them small quantities. Mine love cucumber, too.
Hi! One of my chickens twice laid eggs (2 at a time) with no shell to speak of... I've noticed she'll feed a lot more off grass than her sisters when I let them loose in my backyard. There are no nefarious plants around, so that's not the issue. I'm just wondering if she's been eating too much...
