Hi! Love this. My husband just made 2 for our big girls. I also have a coop with a Cochin Bantam and an Egyptian Fayoumis. I worry that the 3" will be too big for them as well as the elbow being too long for my bantam. What do you guys use for their bantams?
And... we are heading out of town...
4 week update on my 3 year old golden comet hen named Omelet.
Her abdomen has enlarged again.
Her breathing has gotten heavy again
She walks slower than normal and she's doing the "dirty diaper walk"... if you understand that!
She has not laid an egg.
She is still eating and drinking, but...
That was one of our diagnosis we came up with but we never drained her abdomen. She was on IM Pennicillin for a week. Her tummy doesn't feel as extended anymore. The vet said he thought he felt an egg (or something hard) in there but it was sitting low. Who knows. I will just continue her...
Hi guys. She is still the same. Eating and drinking fine. Pooping great. No eggs. Foraging with her sisters fine. I'm still bathing her, blow drying her, and giving her laxatives. It's been 3 weeks since her first symptoms of mouth breathing was noted.
Here's pictures ange92040! (coloring off...
Hi ange92040,
Thanks for asking!
Omelet is still hanging in there!
I have discontinued the penicillin because I think I read somewhere that you should only give it for 7 days (and well, I ran out of syringes... but I can go buy more if you think I need to continue it!).
I am still giving...
Hi guys,
Just wanted to let you know what the vet said.
Omelet's tummy does seem a bit larger but he feels a very large egg in there but way at the bottom. I am to continue the penicillin injections, warm baths, massages and he gave me a script for a laxative. If she's not better... xrays...
Yes, thanks speckledhen!
I've been looking for supplements for hens during molting today in hopes that will help my girl after I drain her. (Haven't done it yet... was hoping to find a youtube video to show me EXACTLY where to stick her... but haven't yet... and well, I don't think I could do...
I agree with Braec. This is what I think is wrong with my Omelet too. I just got the stuff I need to drain her abdomen but I don't think it's a one person job so I need to wait until my husband gets home.
Hope your girl feels better!
Dawn
Thanks speckledhen. I was kinda hoping for better news but thank you for being blunt. I guess I will get a large syringe and give it a try and be prepared for the worst. I can't get to my feed store before they close tonight so it will have to wait until tomorrow. I guess I will not give her...
Day 8 - She's getting worse.
OK.. we went from a possible CRD to Eggbound and now I'm leaning more towards fluid in her abdomen (though I don't know what this disease is called).
