I currently have a hen inside in isolation. I brought her in for sour crop, and the infection doesn't seem to want to go away. At this point, she's been inside for a while and after putting her on yoghurt for three days after a two day fast, there was still just the smallest bit of something in...
We don't have fertile eggs, We're not zoned for more than 6 chickens, and definitely not zoned for a rooster (although that hasn't stopped our neighbours). Thankfully, just locking them out of the coop during the day for 7-8 hours for a few weeks seemed to do the trick.
Of our six girls, two of them are broody. But now they're both brooding in the same nest and one of them consistently sits on top of the other and spreads her wings to cover the bottom hen like she's a chick. What on earth do I do?
I have a girl who clearly has bumblefoot (black scab, swelling, heat, and she was taking every opportunity she could to stand on one leg and take weight off the affected foot). We brought her in, bathed her, and took a scalpel and dental picks to the plug to try and get the infection out, but...
The chickens had owners before us, and in the begining we didn't pay too much attention, it's possible that this is an old injury that's already healed. She doesn't seemed fussed by it, and when i picked her up and had a feel it felt hard at the joint. Do you think it's worth trying to move (the...
Noticed one of my girls has toe that wont curls and is pointed in an odd direction. Picked her up and had a feel around the joint, it's solid and there doesn't seem to be any swelling. The toe won't curl after the affected joint and it seems like the other toes on the effected foot curl slightly...
One of our hens had us worried and stumped us for a bit with what was wrong. After much panic and puzzling we finally figured out it was a combination of going broody and developing sour crop at the same time. We've had her separate while we feed her on scrambled eggs and feed mixed with yogurt...
Can anyone confirm the effectiveness of DE in feed for worming? I've read putting some in feed once a month is an effective all around worming treatment. Any truth to that?
We haven't fed her in a bit, because her crop hasn't totally emptied yet, but I gave her a crop massage and about 10 seconds later she pooped a big blob of green liquid. What do you guys make of that?
Ok, she's not plucking out her own feathers, she preens a lot if let outside and there seems to be a gap in them (there's none growing) over her crop, which is still mushy after last being fed two days ago so she definitely has sour crop. Her poop has started to just be green and white sludge. I...
Update: After separating her for the night and her seeming fine we let her back out. After a bit we checked on her and she'd gone back to the odd behavior of puffing and trilling. Brought her back inside and kept her overnight again, This time her crop didn't empty the whole way, so it looks...
They came with the house when we moved in near the beginning of the year. From what i can tell she's a red shaver, but I have no idea what her age is. It's spring here so I doubt it's the molt. Come to think of it it's been a few months or more, but the weather has been odd, and only two of the...
Haven't check for an obstruction yet. She's happily eating and drinking, and up till this point she hasn't been laying for quite a while. Beginning to think it was false alarm, What cause the odd behavior though, I have no idea. I've released her just so I can see if she goes back to roosting as...
I separated her last night and gave her a bath, just in case. I could see her vent working, and she seemed to be shivering, but I'm not sure if this was from cold, or fear, or from straining to pass something. This morning her crop was empty, but she also seemed to be perked up, despite not...
