I will probably keep a few of the Cochins since my grandaughter is attached to them and sell the rest at the local farmers market in a few weeks. I only wanted a dozen of the rhode bar eggs but it was a deal I couldn't pass up. I raise hens for the eggs mainly for my family and friends with the...
It's been a crazy hatching week here! I bought 6 dozen hatching eggs from a breeder for $30 because the person that ordered them didn't show up to pick them up. There were a mix of Cochins, Mille fleur, rhodebar, leghorn and americaunas. I had to use all three of my available incubators but got...
I have found that sharing the run with the chickens really doesn't work out so well. I love my cute, fuzzy ducklings but they are such messy little fluffs. I now keep them in a seperate run. Unfortunately I didn't keep the chickens out of the duck run and now have a hen sitting on 4 Pekin eggs...
All 6 Pekin Ducks hatched with no problems and right on schedule. I also candled the duck eggs my Easter Egger is sitting on and 2 are infertile and 1 is developing quite nicely. Looks like it should hatch next week.
Hatched out 10 out of 16 shipped BCM. This is my second hatch this year. Also have 6 Pekin Ducks in the bator now due to hatch 3/18. Then putting in some leghorns after that. I also have a broody RIR that has set up her best in the Ducks house. Hatching is addicting.
This information was so helpful! I had 17 eggs in lock down and started getting pips on day 21. During this time we had a power failure, I had one that had zipped but stopped and 7 hatched, 3 were not progressing at all. I hesitated to help it the one that zipped and it ended up passing. Some...
It's so hard to resist those little puffs! I'm at 20 now and every time I go to buy feed they have a different breed. I've been able to resist for the last 3 weeks but it's getting quite difficult.
I purchased a few different breeds of chicks in March. This one was supposed to be an Americauna. Not sure if it's a pullet or a cockerel but I just love the coloring!
Welcome! I'm near the Central Florida area too and just started out with chickens this March. I have 4 Buffs, 2 Americaunas, 3 black aconas, 3 gold sex links, 2 RIR, 3 cookoo Marin's and 2 barred rocks. (I can't go into the feed store without bringing a few home!). I was very lucky to receive a...
