What do you wish you had known before you got your chickens

I agree with this one. I wish I would have been better prepared for first-aid emergencies right from the start, specifically Duramycin antibiotic, Blu-kote, and a quick way to separate/quarantine a bird. One of our chicks died at 5 days old. She had been a little sluggish on day 3, but being...

What do you wish you had known before you got your chickens

I wish I would have been prepared to see chickens be bullies to each other. I know it is silly, but sometimes it is actually hard to see the pecking order at work, especially if your favorites are at the bottom.

My rooster is attacking one of my hens!

Well, shoot. That was my first instinct, too! I was struggling between putting him in or her... My chickens are afraid of the dark!

Alex15, my friends have been laughing at me when I tell them their chirps are sad and scared, but when you raise chicks you can tell the difference between happy, content chirps and scared ones! It is a good idea leaving their little brooder box in there with them for awhile. I will try easing...

My chickens are afraid of the dark!

ruatgr2 ~ Mine didn't want to go in the first few nights either, but on the third night I went out at dusk and they were all in the coop, but clinging to the window for the last shred of light. They are still doing that and it has been a week, but since the 3rd night they all have been putting...
