I had pet chickens as a kid that I absolutely loved to pieces and I had always intended to get back into chicken keeping when I had a permanent residence. We bought our place in 2018 and I had thought maybe in five or so years, we'll do a big landscaping remodel of the backyard and build a coop and run up from the ground. Incidentally that's not how that went. I joined the throngs of people who brought home day old chicks in April of 2020 when no one could go anywhere, launching me back into Crazy Chicken Ladydom, first brooding them in the basement bathroom until they were old enough to move outside, and repurposing a delapidated, water damaged old shed in the backyard into a coop. Now I can't possibly imagine not having a backyard flock. Maybe in five years or so I'll actually do that backyard landscaping project and build a new, much fancier coop for my ladies.

Occupation
I was a veterinary assistant for eight years, nowadays I have handfuls of different jobs (some formal some informal). Once upon a time I'd planned to go to vet school, but for many (really, manymanymany) reasons I've had to pivot more than once. Now content to live my quiet, poultry-enriched life with the bits and bobs of jobs/obligations I run across. I miss vet med sometimes, though, and am extremely grateful for the skill set I developed in those eight years and how it's enabled me to care for my birds when something comes up.
