    Tips giving pills to chickens?

I know you said you tried hiding it in treats and the bird figured it out, but one thing my avian vet recommended that kind of blew my mind was sprayable Cheez Whiz. It would never in a million years have occurred to me that chickens would be motivated by Cheez Whiz but they see the horrible...

    Do you kiss your chickens?

I told myself when I first got chicks that I would fight the desire to kiss them and that was going just fine... Until I had my first chicken emergency and the emotional weight of that whole ordeal kind of derailed that intention. So, yes at this phase. And mine are friendly enough that they...

Posting on behalf of a friend not on BYC— bumblefoot/scaly leg mites

Just to give an update per my friend, and provide closure if it's helpful! After continuing to soak the area the abscess did burst and drain out kind of on its own, they had their vet visit this morning who didn't deem antibiotics necessary since the abscess drained on its own and now she's...

Thank you again! I'll pass that along. And I'll update this when I hear more from her. Cheers!

She mentioned it felt hot to the touch, but I'll text her to ask if there's a smell. And thank you! I've never personally dealt with bumblefoot, so I'm learning right alongside my friend.

Posting on behalf of a friend not on BYC— bumblefoot/scaly leg mites

Hello fellow chickenfolk! I’m writing on behalf of a friend who asked me for advice re:home treating bumblefoot. I basically regurgitated all the things I remember reading here and in the Chicken Health Handbook re: isolating in a crate, soaking in Epsom salts, trying to express the plug out...

Going through the motions of laying, but no egg?

I didn't, as she never behaved outwardly unwell other than breaking what had been a very predictable pattern. But if she became inappetent, lethargic, etc. I would have. And I have it at the ready just in case! Fingers crossed that it ends up being a purely ornamental bottle of calcium citrate...

Going through the motions of laying, but no egg?

Welp, after a whole lot of "fanfare" (both Charisma and her much, much bossier, pushier sister wanted to be in the same, apparently only acceptable nest box and so much screaming ensued until they sorted it out), we have this! It's a little darker in color than her usual, and she's never laid a...

Going through the motions of laying, but no egg?

I think it was free? I can't remember, honestly. But here! https://flockstarapp.com/ I had started a google spreadsheet to track daily eggs and the spouse found this app and it just seemed more streamlined to do it through the app.

Going through the motions of laying, but no egg?

It's calcium citrate (400mg) with 12.5mcg of D3... Hopefully the strength isn't too low, since the one you showed me is 630mg. I also have a pill splitter and could give her an additional half tablet if 400mg is too small a dose.

Going through the motions of laying, but no egg?

Awesome, thank you for this! A couple months back in an effort to be proactive with whatever home care might be needed I actually bought some calcium with D3 to keep on hand, just in case (also bought a B complex based on things I was reading on here, again just to hopefully avoid being in a...

Going through the motions of laying, but no egg?

I'm hoping this is just a blip and not going to be a trend and not a harbinger of eggbinding to come, BUT... One of my pullets (an Austra White between 36 and 37 weeks old) just this morning went through the motions of laying, parked in the box for a while and then when I saw that she'd come out...

Five-month old Australorp suddenly lame. Update: Now another pullet going lame!

Hmmm, you did mention that you've had to give her frequent baths when she's poopy, I wonder how easy it would be to rig up something similar to the sorts of water rehab therapy exercises they do for dogs and cats: " I mean, probably setting up a treadmill in the bath might be kinda hard but...
