    The one on the top of the pecking order is probably a cockerel, and the rest are pullets.

    Best Time for Brooding?

    Here in California, CA fall is the best time for brooding. The chicks start laying in the spring, and so you get max eggs from them.

    Black Copper French Marans... please tell me this isn't 5 roos?!

    I have 3 and 2 of them look like roots, but are hens. I hatched 10, and got 5 and 5. 7 got eaten. All of them are equally smart.
