Thank you for the reply! We are learning A LOT in this experience and this forum has been priceless. I feel very, very lucky that our babe was just scratched on the arm. It could have been so much worse. I feel like it was a bit of a blessing as it has made it oh-so-much-easier to re-home the...
Update!
One of the neighbor's roosters (who I really, really like and has never shown any aggression before) just attacked our 16 month old so, yeah, we are taking your advice and re-homing all 3 roos. We will stick with our 7 hens and see about adding some more hens next year. Again, I very...
Thanks so much for this thoughtful response! Our main concern was having enough hens for the 1 rooster which is why we were looking to replace the re-homed rooster but what you say makes total sense.
We do have a good bit of space, I think? About a 1/4 acre fenced as their run and their coop is...
Hi friends,
We had 10 pullets . . . Welp, we *thought* we had 10 pullets but it turns out we actually have 7 pullets and 3 cockerals. We are re-homing, with heavy hearts, 2 of the roos and would like to get 2 more started pullets in their place. Our pullets are 11 weeks old and free range...
Well shucks. Next question: What do we do now? Haha. We have plenty of property, no city ordinances to follow so that is fine- but do we need to do anything differently? We are brand new chicken owners and were only prepared for hens. We certainly don’t mind roosters but are they fine just...
Alright. We have our suspicions but I figured we would bite the bullet and get confirmation on these guys/gals. We got a “variety” pack from a popular hatchery that were supposed to be 10 hens but out of those 10 we have 2 that are crowing (the Speckled Sussex and the EE) and one that is trying...
Thanks, all! Yes, I believe she is an Olive Egger! I was looking at Meyer’s Hatchery website where she came from as part of a variety and I think she is a “Steele Egger” which is a designer style that lays blue or green eggs, probably a mix between cuckoo maran and cream legbar. AWESOME job, y’all!
Below is the only pic that Juju would let me get of her. Is she a Brahma? It’s strange because her feet feathers only came in at about 3-4 weeks. . . We are befuddled!
Hi!
Would love some help identifying the chicken below with the tuft on the top of its head. I thought it was the same breed as its buddy (also pictured) without the tuft.
What do you think?
Hi all!
Our chicks are almost 3 weeks old. We received a rare/rainbow assortment so are still trying to figure out what they are. They all came clean-legged but a few, especially the ones that I originally guessed to be black splash Andalusians and another that I thought was a Delaware, have...
Wonderful! I really wanted that advice as we are ready to move them out, for sure. They are sweet and lovable but, holy SMOKES, they are trouble haha.
Thank you SO much and have a great day!
Wonderful! Well, great job. I shall admire it from afar. Our babes are 2 weeks as of yesterday and are already jumping out of our brooder and making the entire loft of our house their own personal toilet, hahahaha! We are considering moving them to their coop but we don't have any full grown...
Wow! As someone who is currently cursing our flimsy, cardboard brooder, this makes me so envious. Question: What will you do at 2 weeks? Do you then move them to the coop?
