Hope y'all are doing well, we moved our little flock into their coop today. They are 3-4 weeks, and were nearly escaping from the deep tub they were in. I still have a heat lamp going for them out there, looks like the lowest it's supposed to be tonight here is about 50. Their wings are pretty...
My boxes are 12 X 12 but I have some big birds. I think you are personally wise to put in a few extra nesting boxes cause everyone always seems to end up getting more birds than they have to begin with. Of course then the coop can get crowded. If they have room to roam and forage they will do...
That's good to know, when we were in Iowa with our larger flock we had 10 layers and 12 boxes. They used them at random and never shared, so with that experience I wasn't sure! Thank you for your advice! We settled on 4 boxes so they should have plenty room!
Hey y'all, my husband and I are constructing our coop. We have less space here in Kansas and have opted for a more compact moveable coop. We only have 6 chicks. Our road block right now is that I want the laying boxes to be bigger so that the girls have room to enter, turn around however they...
We haven't gotten any sleet or snow over here, just so much rain and some hail early this week. Luckily we have yet to transplant our starts into our garden! I'm afraid all the little plants would have died, hopefully we warm up next week! Here it is end of April and it feels like October!

Hello y'all! We just moved back home to Kansas from Iowa. There's no place like home!! We're currently in Bonner Springs, but will be in Tonganoxie by the end of October. Just started a small flock and are so excited!
Thank you! We only have room right now for 6 girls, what a huge change it is from farm to city. But we are so happy to have our chicks. 2 americaunas, 2 buff orpingtons, 1 barred rock and 1 speckled Sussex! They are all so sweet and eating right from my hand.
This is my second time around on BYC.
We had a flock of lovely ladies in Iowa, but moved back home to Kansas last year and had to rehome them
We are finally able to start up a new flock, sooner than we imagined and much smaller but it's a start! SO glad to be back!
