Solo Rooster Coop? -- Culling NOT an option

I definitely worried about the summer heat and humidity here in KY!

Solo Rooster Coop? -- Culling NOT an option

Yes, and I even bought some. The hen that is his favorite is pretty feisty, she attacked me, even when she went to roost. She came ALIVE, lol. Just FYI, I didn't try to put the saddle on when she was injured, she's just a firecracker in general.

Solo Rooster Coop? -- Culling NOT an option

It is from his spurs, but his behavior has gone from just being rough to a point where the hens are grabbed by the head if he's close enough. He most definitely doesn't bother with asking permission. They attempt to escape him, but as I mentioned he's a big one. I could trim his spurs or I...

Solo Rooster Coop? -- Culling NOT an option

I have a year old barred rock rooster who does a great job protecting my 15 hens and 12 pullets, however, he is too rough on the hens. I have one that has a pretty nasty laceration on her back and is hiding from him. She has been separated to heal and de-stress. She is an easter egger and my...

Multiple Coops for my future flock of 30

Thanks for the response. I was more worried about their "feelings" I guess more than whether or not they had enough coop space. They are a mixed flock of BR rooster, 2 buff orps, 4 RIR, 5 easter eggers, and 4 leghorns. They pullets are more of the same. I think that I will just construct more...

Multiple Coops for my future flock of 30

I Thanks! That was my main question in all my rambling, size of coop isn't the issue, I was more concerned with their "wellbeing" in sleep apart. Just want to make sure they are happy. If I decided to build on large coop I would just lock the other two as I did when they moved to coop 2...

Multiple Coops for my future flock of 30

Currently I have a flock of 15 hens and a rooster. They are free ranged everyday and go out on their own in any weather. I have 12 pullets that are three weeks old in the house that I will add to the flock in a few months. My questions is, is it okay to allow your chickens to self regulate where...

4 Month old pullet, possible prolapsed vent?

Update--After treating her for several days, she stopped eating and drinking. We had her euthanized today. It became clear (during me treating her) that it was not a prolapsed vent. She was able to poop just fine. Today, when the vet examined her he couldn't figure what it was because the mass...

4 Month old pullet, possible prolapsed vent?

Thanks everyone! Would you suggest I cull her or wait and try to treat and see how she does?

4 Month old pullet, possible prolapsed vent?

I will take more pictures. we noticed it last week. It was mostly covered with her feathers. I thought she might have a bit of pasty butt. It does not smell bad, I was trying to determine what it was by smelling and it has no smell; which ruled out poop for me. As for the other chickens, they...

4 Month old pullet, possible prolapsed vent?

One of our 4 month old Leghorn pullets seems to have something hanging out of her vent. She seems fine, clear eyes, active, pooping fine, and eating and drinking enough; but what we thought was pasty butt looks like something else. We soaked her and tried to use a toothbrush to massage it out...
