Day 20.
Started with 31 (mostly BCM and few OEs), culled 7 as clear/quitters @ 14 days.
6 hatched already, 5 more with external pips.
Hoping the rest are on schedule and don't mind the early emerging hooligans stomping about.
I had two in my current hatch pip the wrong end and ended up assisting both - happy to say both are happily stomping around in the brooder today!
Have 13 hatched so far and waiting out a dozen others ( I was bad and added some eggs over the first few days of incubation).
Best hatch I've had...
Truly tests my patience! And I've got a 4 and 2 year old who just woke up and want to see their long awaited chicks!
Other than the fogging, the bator did great. Will definitely be upgrading the view window to double pane for next time though - and making it big enough for two kid's faces...
That does help!
I had thought about putting a two or four foot high kneewall foundation on the hoop house to gain roosting height. Sounds like that might be in order along with making it 4 panels long rather than three, giving roughly 16'x9' and a 10' peak.
None through yet, but up to 6 pips and a few have made good progress!
And I don't know how I blew my dates, but today is actually day 20, not 21 - so I feel even better now about the progress.
Would like to get a flock of Guineas shortly but am unsure as to what they need from a coop/roost perspective.
I would like to start off with about 18-24 birds, free roaming on our 25 acres.
Given the local predator pressure, I would try to get them into a shelter at dusk and know that they...
3 pips so far - 2 BCMs and 1 Olive Egger... out of ~ 30.
And I've discovered my 1st real flaw with my "cooler-bator" - I went with a single pane of thick glass for the viewing window rather than the double plexi I used on my smaller cooler and when humidity gets north of 50% it fogs up...
This is my third hatch and day 21 as well... and I'm watching probably just as anxiously as you!
All I had were wobblers this morning, a few started last night - but now have 3 pips in the last few hours and occasional chirps!
Good luck!
