I've been doing a little more research today, and I'm gonna try diatomaceous earth for a bit and see if that helps. Thanks so much for the advise!!! it sounds like many people de worm their chickens on a regular basis....I'd rather try the natural route and see if it works. She hasnt shown...
How would I go about doing that? These are my first birds and they've been fine so far. Wondering if it would be ok to just give them the medicine as a prophylactic?
Hi! We have 3 chickens total- RI red, Ameruacana and Plymouth Rock. They are very happy and live in a clean, environment with plenty of outside time. we have had them since chicks and they have laid extremely well. This spring my two other chickens are laying every day, but the Plymouth...
They are all good little chickies and go in their coop at dusk- I think I'm just going to wait and see. After 3 nights of putting them up on the roost they still aren't into going up there themselves. I'm hoping once they start laying that it'll be a different story. Or once the nights...
My girls HATE being picked up, (even thought i've had them from 1 week old and picked them up every day...) The only way I can to it is if they are subdued at night. One of them still hates it and freaks out. My husband holds up a flashlight and I pick them up and put them up there. Then...
We have 3, 15 week old ladies. They have consistently slept on the floor huddled together. I just assumed that they would figure it out eventually but it hasnt happened yet. Soon Im going to open up their nesting boxes which are now sectioned off with garden mesh. I'm worried they are going...
I havent put them up on the roost during the day because of the way our coop is set up. They spend all day in the run, so i'd have to open the door to the coop, pick them up, and place them on the roost. It might be hard to see but we have a long branch on the right side of the run that they...
Ok so it's been 3 nights now that we've gone in at night and put them up on the roost. They stay there all night but still aren't getting up there on their own. How long should we keep doing this? Should I just let them do what they want to do and leave it alone? Cleanup is so much easier if...
We also use a 2x3 that we've rounded off to make it more comfortable for their claws. I put them up there for the last 2 nights, and they stayed there all night....so hopefully if I keep doing that they'll get the hang of it! We have a "poop board" that sits below the roost that they can...
So we went out last night at like 11pm. It's was no problem with the Plymouth Rock and the ameruacana but the Rhode Island Red totally flipped out- lol. Maybe I didn't get a good enough grip on her. I got them all up there, hopefully they stayed that way! We'll go out again and try the same...
I did some more research and contacted the feed company- apparently for the winter months the feed with corn in it is supposed to be better because it provides more carbohydrates to keep the chickens warm. In the summer months it's best to have a feed w/o corn. thanks for all the suggestions!
