She died. I asked locals and their best guess is poisonous spiders they eat or scorpion. Sounds like I'm up against some big obstacles having chickens out here in the jungles of Mexico.
She just started laying eggs this week. Or we have 3 identical hens and get 2 eggs a day for about a week. Not sure who is laying when. Age is about 6 months. No idea what breed. We live in Mexico. All brown. She can't even move her head. Just laying there breathing. I am trying to give...
No obvious impaction or hardness in its crop. feels soft/doughy. no foul smell. could a crop issue get so dramatic so quick. it was acting fine a couple hours before. now it can't barely move. no drinking. just laying there lifeless and breathing. opens eyes every once in a while.
they have free access to chicken feed I buy in our small town. Only option. They free range in the jungle all day. We give them a variety of fruits and veggies and gave them tuna fish yesterday. She may have gotten into a little bit of dog kibble. I am just googling crop issues and don't...
Hello, new to chickens and our hens just started laying eggs this past week. Hours ago everyone was looking fine and now I have one laying down pretty lifeless. She is breathing and will object a little when I tried to give her water with a syringe. She looks very bad. Floppy. There has been...
yea...the more I research the more it all makes sense. These feathered friends will need to be very heat tolerant once summer rolls around. It's just that in the area we are, when I asked about someone who could sex the baby ducks or chicks they think I'm crazy. Hey, they think we are crazy...
WOW! how incredible it would be to be two chicas! I've been fretting they are both males and how I will split up our property to separate or how many female ducks I could fit...or where I will find these female ducks in the remote jungle of Mexico! Fingers crossed they are both girls or at...
Awe thanks! I think they are gorgeous. Spent the evening hanging with the non-quack duo with new eyes after all this dialog and Flea def has thicker legs and is bigger with less feathers. HE/she falls in mid sprint all the time, is lazier and more of a lover actually. Corkey is more active...
That's my guess too! Their personalities fit with many of the other things I researched online. The only thing that makes me doubt is they are about the same size. Supposedly the males should be noticeable bigger by now. Time will tell. Thanks for your guess and the article
No idea really. I have noticed the darker line where the face meets feathers come recently. I will go inspect closer. I'm researching and considering maybe Mulard. Cross between Muscovy and Peking done for meat. Since that's what they were fated for before we adopted the lucky devils.
That's what I was thinking. I guess if I see any Carnucles form I will know. No signs yet. If only they'd tell me if they are male or female! Maybe Magpie cross as guessed above, but they are BIG.
Thanks. Mine sit at our door and peep non stop. But the sound hasn't changed. They are like puppies with the separation anxiety! They go from one door to the other and sleep on the doorstep until we come hang out.
