Thank you for the help.
When you say put the ointment in the eye....you mean actually IN it, open the eye lids and put it right on his eyes?
Do you suppose it is anything that would be contagious to my other duckling or my adult ducks and geese? They all share a kiddie pool at times for...
I have a duckling that we hatched about a month ago that is having eye problems.
It started with a white/yellowish thick musus type drainage. I just noticed it yesterday. The uck got so bad today his eyes were plastered shut. When I take a warm rag to them to get them open tons of clear drainage...
I just came here to see about such an egg.
My son came in from gathering eggs and was all excited... "Wanna see something totally weird?" And he holds up an egg no bigger than the smallest one in your picture, perfectly shaped too.
It came from one of our Easter Eggers...it's a very dark...
I have a hen that hatched out some chicks and is taking good care of them. They are about a month old now. I'm just curious as to when she will start laying eggs again. Or even when she will decide the babes are old enough to do for themselves.
Thanks!
Thanks for the help.
I thought maybe they were like chicks and would like being held.
I'd like to let these guys free range like my chickens do. How long should I keep them in the enclosed area before letting them out? I figure with as little as they are they need protecting but at what age...
Thanks.
So should I be trying to catch them to hold them? Cause they certainly don't like it when I do. I thought maybe that would help them like us a bit. But maybe that's just scaring them more.
They love it when we aren't around. I watch them from a distance and they have a ball it seems...
I bought 10, 3 week old ducklings a few days ago. They are NOT used to people and mad about being taken away from their mom.
What can I do to get them to the point they don't run like mad men when they see me coming? I have them in a small pen outside but every time I approach they run as fast...
Did I read your other post right that the Granulex will take care of the dead tissue. This wound is so bad looking. It's deep, to the bone in spots. She has so much dead meat in there and is one nasty smelling bird at the moment.
Do I use the granulex before or after I'm pretty sure all maggots...
Thanks!
We only ran a bit of alcohol over it once and when I saw it wasn't doing much we went to the peroxide.
I will mix up the saline solution right after I get our calf bottle fed. Then I'll head to the farm store and see if I can find the Granulex talked about in the other thread.
I just...
We had a hen go missing for a while. Showed up yesterday morning with 3 chicks in tow!!
She has one nasty wound on her back and maggots are in it. What can I do for her? We put rubbing alcohol on it hoping that would kill some. Then we put peroxide on it. That made the maggots scatter in all...
Alright, I'm in IL and it says "infectious encephalomyelitis -- avian" is reportable. Is that the same as AE? Or is that something different than what we are dealing with? I had to wade through umpteen different links on the IL Dept of Ag site to find that info.
Anyone know how IL handles...

Can I ask? What do they do when you report it? Do they just want to know about it? Do they require you kill your entire flock? Just wondering what happens when you report. And how do you find out what your state laws are on the matter?
My polish I asked about earlier died last night.
I was able to put 2 back in with the others though. They are well enough that they were trying to escape their brooder.
So now I have 4 more that seem to be getting better. One golden polish is the only one who seems like he isn't growing. The...
I have a question for anyone that has had these sick chicks get better.
My first one (Polish) to get sick did so around a week old or shortly there after he's now 3 weeks old. Just a couple days ago he seemed to be quite a bit better. He started standing up and walking around almost normal...
