Got six new pullet chicks today from tractor supply. Three look like this:
And three look like this:
Any guesses on what they could be? I'm thinking the darker ones are either Welsummer or Brown Leghorn, time will tell but the red ones have me stumped. They are much...
I have a little Bantam hen that disappeared last weekend. This past Wednesday we found her next to the garage sitting a nest. I can't tell if there are eggs under her or not and I have no idea if they are fertile as the only Roo I have is a LF Wyandotte. How much can I likely mess with her...
Like others have said it depends on the cat. I have a HUGE outdoor cat. He was my barn cat at our old house but now we don't have a real barn so he is a porch cat. He pushes 20 lbs in the winter and catches full grown rabbits and squirrels and eats them whole. However, he has never bothered...
If she matched all the other chicks in the "red pullets" tub I would guess she is just growing fast. Those are usually sex linked chicks so getting a male is doubtful unless you did indeed get a broiler somehow. I have gotten lots of red pullets from TSC and have always LOVED them!! They are...
This thread is awesome. I have a mystery chick I will get some pictures of that came from the mixed pullets tub at TSC. Got 6 dark chicks that I'm pretty sure 5 of them are Wyandottes but the 6th chick is marked similarly to the ones I suspect to be GL Wyandottes but has a single comb instead...
Okay so I cracked open the 4 that didn't hatch. one quit early and I knew it was dead going into lockdown. Looks like probably between 12-14 days. The other 3 though were alive going into lockdown and had partially absorbed yolks but no internal pips. What would cause that? Just trying to...
When I candled at day 18 I marked a little x at the lowest point of the air cell and that's the part of the egg I pointed up when I locked down. All 4 of my chicks pipped right around that mark.

Okay so I have 4 chicks and 3 eggs left that were alive at day 18, I'm not seeing anymore wiggling and planning to take the other chicks out today. At what point do you guys give up on an egg?? Should I float test?? I am at the end of day 23. Last hatch was only 18 hours ago though.

My 4th is working it's way out now too!! I cheated and reached in quick and rolled the egg over to check for a pip because the egg had been rocking and rolling all day long but the other chicks had flipped it over from where I had marked that I thought it would probably pip and sure enough...
Thank you for answering the bathing question. Once they are dry and fluffy I'll be good. I've raised lots of chicks just never hatched them out myself before but I am totally hooked! My neighbor down he road has a mixed backyarn flock and she said I can have some of her eggs to hatch put too...
Even if no more hatch I will be happy. Started with 20 but 12 were clear. 8 made it to the 14 day candling and one quit between 14 and 18 days. Had quite a bit of temp fluctuation and didn't measure my humidity at all. Just put water in about every 4-5 days and filled everything with warm...
As of this morning we have 3 new chicks!! First one hatched around midnight and the other two sometime between then and 6:30 this morning. I can't tell if I have any more pips because the 3 chicks have knocked the eggs all up to the walls of the incubator. They are not getting fluffy though...
Thank you so much, I went and read your thread and it has made me breathe a little easier. Not much progress yet but chick is still moving and peeping in there and the crack is slightly bigger than it was at noon. Have had another internal pip so I'm hoping the rest follow suit and start...
Awoke to my first internal pip this morning at 6:30ish but it looks like the chick is piping externally below the air cell line. Is this going to be a big problem? So far it's just cracks and no real hole. How long can I let it go before I need to help? Last time I heard cheeping was about a...
