Why are my 2 week old chicks FIGHTING??

Thank you, I will be sure to do that! I marked my calendar for June 9 to post photos. :-) They should be around 8 or 9 weeks by then. Right now it seems that since Sadie has established herself at the top of the pecking order, she chose to sleep on the roost ABOVE everybody else who is all...

Why are my 2 week old chicks FIGHTING??

UPDATE: They did awaken, of course, and a few more fights have broke out. The last fight I actually saw begin. Marly attacked little Twinkie who was in her way. Sadie seemed to react to that, and attacked Marly as Twinkie made her get-away. Marly pecked back at Sadie only once this time...

Why are my 2 week old chicks FIGHTING??

Last one. ;-) This is a view of the whole cage looking in one door. Lots of room to play! (Well, for a week or two until they outgrow it and have to move out to the barn!) LOL! Seeing how much they love the swing, my husband will be installling a larger one for them in the adult pen. :-)

Why are my 2 week old chicks FIGHTING??

I have 9 chicks approx 2 weeks old... two of them may be 3 weeks old. We bought them all together 1 week and a half ago, and have kept them together the whole time. Up until this morning, they all snuggle together, and don't like to be separated. We give them lots of attention to keep them...

1 out of the 10 chicks we bought is weaker than the rest.

Wow, I didn't see the last page of posts until I posted a reply at the end of page 3! I will be praying for ALL of those little chicks tonight! So sorry that you all have to know what I was going through, and hoping like crazy that yours has better outcomes! I hope that my thread and all the...

1 out of the 10 chicks we bought is weaker than the rest.

Thank you, everybody. Yes, it is hard. Hard on my boys. (ages 5 and 8) and hard on me. But you're right, it is part of life, and we knew when we bought the chicks that there's always a possibility that one or 2 might not survive for one reason or another. We wanted 8 hens, so we bought 10...

1 out of the 10 chicks we bought is weaker than the rest.

Truffles is gone. She fought a good fight... she hung in there longer than I thought she could. She went to sleep with her sisters, and grew stiff by next water time. Sisters were still snuggled up to her, not trampling her, just snuggled up, sharing their warmth with her... but she was no...

    Soft Egg...No Shell!??

We have gotten those once in a while. Just one in the midst of normal eggs. In my own small backyard flock, and my Dad did too in his small flock. We just make sure they're getting enough calcium, like having oyster shells available, and usually without any changes, the next day she lays a...

1 out of the 10 chicks we bought is weaker than the rest.

How about the amount of the solution that I'm giving her? What is a "dose"? I've been giving her 1/8 tsp once an hour, allowing her to sleep in between times. Sometimes I alternate back to the sugar water or molasses water for one or 2 times, then back to the electrolytes again. Is this...

1 out of the 10 chicks we bought is weaker than the rest.

At her 6:30 "watering" I gave her some more homemade electrolytes, and she actually was almost fiesty! Very encouraged, I placed her back with her sisters, and had dinner with the family. Every hour, I come back to give her more water or electrolyte mixture to be sure she stays hydrated...

    Eggs have disappeared! Help!

About a year and a half ago, When our chickens who were laying 10 eggs a day declined rapidly, until they stopped laying altogether, we were perplexed. Then one morning, my husband peeked in on his way to work, and saw about 7 eggs in the nest box. "Oh good!" he thought, "They're laying...

1 out of the 10 chicks we bought is weaker than the rest.

SHE POOPED!! That's a good sign, right?? After waking her up, I gave her the electrolyte recipe without the salt substitute, and using sea salt in place of table salt. I used the medicine dropper, and gave her just a little over 1/8 tsp one drop at a time. She kept accepting it, and after...
