OK thanks il
OK thanks I'll check his crop tomorrow morning and see how it is. Good to know about the pellet vs grain, I thought grains would be better for them because they're more expensive and not processed. So much to learn!
Hello all, I had a scary moment with my rooster today, I noticed him flapping about on the ground and his head and neck winding all over the place and stretching out backwards the he collapsed on the ground by the time I got to him, I picked him up and felt his neck and I was sure I could feel a...
So the treats on the ladder worked as far as getting them all to either jump up on or walk up the ladder, I left treats in the coop too so they would all walk up right into the coop.
Then at night they still huddled in a pile on the grass in the run. That was about 8:20pm. Then aroumd 9pm when...
They have walked down it the last 5 mornings when they leave the coop, and I tried one night unsuccessfully to get them to walk up it...
Maybe I could put lots of treats on the ramp and lock them in the bottom of the run to try and get them to try and walk up it without the other 5 around?.
I agree that it will be too small for 11 birds once they're grown.
But I don't think I will be keeping that many for much longer depending on their sex...
It's big enough for them at the moment though isn't it?
There's still plenty of space in the coop at night when they're sleeping as you can...
Yep I did that last night, but they just huddled up where the box was on the grass at the end of the run.... 😐
And I felt sorry for them so I put the box back. Also to make it easier to move them all into the coop. Later after the others went up.
It's 1m wide by 1.2m long.
At the moment the 11 sleep in a tight corner away from the others so there is enough space for now.
I am waiting until the 11 get a little bit older so I can see how many roosters there are, and then they will have to go unfortunately :(
I may need to up size the...
Hello fellow chicken lovers.
I am talking about only silkies here.
I have an original flock of 1 rooster and 2 hens, and 1 of those hens has 2, 2 week old chicks.
I also have 11, 6 week old chicks that I hatched in incubator.
They have been outside in a fenced off coop of their own for the past...
Hi just wondering how things are going? Have your new flock started going into the coop with the others at night now???
I have 11, 6 week old silkie chicks that I am integrating with my existing flock of 1 silkie roo and 2 silkie hens (1 of which has 2, 2week old chicks).
I had them in a...
It is. But I have one hen who is broody now sitting on some eggs so I don't want to disrupt her... Also I'm grateful that none of them have any poop stuck in their feathers around their rear or feet, they seem very clean. They wood shavings seem to do a great job of drying out the poop and then...
What was the success rate of your hatch? I'm about to put 11 of my 1 year old silkies eggs into my friends incubator tomorrow for the first time! How do you check the fertility of the eggs? I have 2 silkie hens and 1 silkie roo.
OK great thanks, if that's the only reasons why it's bad then it's OK to leave them sleep where they wish, because they only ever sleep in one box together and only ever lay eggs in the other box, what good little chickens I have 🥰
I regularly clean out the box where they sleep, and they always...
Hello all, I just have a question why is it bad for silkies to sleep in a nesting box?? I have 2 silkie hens and one silkie rooster, I got them all at 3 weeks old, they're super cute and inseparable, and they all sleep on top, under and beside each other in one of the two nexting boxes they...
