Thank you all for your advice! I think it is sour crop so I am going to treat that first and see what happens. I will bring her inside tonight and keep her in a dog crate and then first thing tomorrow morning we will start treatment. I hope it works!!
Update on her! So I decided to bring her in tonight and give her a bath (she had dried poop on her butt!) and give her a good once over. As I was bathing her I noticed her crop was soft and squishy like a water balloon. As I cleaned her up I noticed that her belly (that big chunk under her butt)...
I will look into this! She was laying regularly and then it has been about 2 weeks, no egg and then yesterday she laid an egg? So I don't know...ugh :(
Hi all. I need help please. 1 year ago we aquired 3 older hens (all 3 layers at the time) from someone I know who has always raised chickens. The first one died about 2 months after coming here. We assumed it was due to stress or old age (not 100% sure how old they were). She kind of slowed...
I live in San Diego and we have a family of hawks that live across the street from our house in a huge tree. Before I got chickens I loved to watch them fly and circle high up in the sky and hear their screech... but now? Not so much 🤬 They are so very brazen here. I will be out back moving...
This was so helpful! We are in the middle of expanding our coop/run and I never thought about making an access from the outside for the nesting boxes. I was just going to build them and put them in there, but DING! Lightbulb went off. If I put them on a certain wall then I can make a door to...
oh thank you! That was sooooo helpful! Very similar to what we have started here. I like the easy design as we have NO idea what we are doing LOL and we are kind of making it up as we go. The ideas on this post are something we can easily handle and will make our chicks so happy! Thank you!
This is a great plan! Then I can place some nesting boxes under there also. about how high do you think these are? 3 feet or so? Is there anything on the poop boards? Or just leave em empty and then scrape the poop of when cleaning up? Thank you so much!
Hi BYC peeps! Firstly, I just want to thank you all for the help and advice I have received here! I feel so good having a place to discuss things. I am new to this and feel like I don't know what I am doing, so thank you!
Ok, so this weekend we built on this extension (the enclosed white...
OH goodness this is so true! LOL! I have never had a hobby before, never really had the time. But I have been furloughed since March due to Covid 19 and chickens are now my hobby. I had NO idea I would love them so much. They are so fun and I have enjoyed every moment of it. Talk about...
Hello there! We brought home two Black Australorps from the feed store in May but as you can see this one is NOT a Black Australorp :) Can anyone tell me breed she is? We had actually been looking for two Barred Rock chicks, but could not find any so we ended up with 2 Australorps.....or so we...
