Mine get everything and I've never had a problem. We literally scrape our plates after every meal into a little chook feed bin which gets emptied each day into a dirt feed area. The chooks scratch and push and eat what they want and leave what they don't. Every couple of weeks I scrape the top...
I LOVE your egg colours! What breeds are they from? Especially the grey/brown ones in the front each end. I have blue and blue/green eggs from Araucana and EE crosses. And I'm about to set Black Copper Marans eggs after my French Wheaton Marans eggs last year resulted in 3 roosters!
If you see each one hatching you can put leg tags on them. I use the flat wrap around leg rings when they first hatch to keep track of who's who. I've also heard of people staggering the hatch dates, putting each breed in 2 days apart.
I bought these two chicks at auction just to keep my single hatchling company but I have no idea what breed they are. Any guesses? I got them a week ago and they seemed about a week or two old then.
I have my vegie garden in the middle of the chook's yard. It's a raised garden in a U shape with wire fencing around the outside and a gate at the open in the U. Without this, the chooks would decimate it. They've eaten the rest of the yard bare, down to dust, but I've managed to get some hardy...
Down here in warm, sunny Australia, I have 9 hens of various breeds and 3 roosters (2 still young, just starting to crow). They have 24 hr access to feed crumbles (gravity feeder) and separate shell grit. And open access to the whole front yard (my vegie garden is fenced off in the middle)...
Ummmmm? I think one of my Marans roosters? just laid an egg?
Just found this egg. It's quite dark but only small, 22g. I have 3 Isa Brown/Australorpe that are 3 years old that regularly lay big eggs like the left one. I have 3 Araucana that are 7 months old and laying little blue eggs and...
I've got a new photo, hopefully it makes it easier to tell. Orange ring (middle) has light tan feathers coming through on the back of the head, as does purple (right) but green (left) seem to have dark head feathers. All their combs seem to be the same size. They're 5 weeks old here.
Hi, I'm in Australia. I've hatched 3 French Maran chicks but I'm worried they might all be roosters. They're three weeks old in these photos. Can anybody advise me?
