Chicken with bald spot and maybe missing half her comb

Update: I noticed she’s missing them all under her chin area as well… only my one Lavender Orpington (23wks) has shown any sort of aggression but it’s mostly just puffing up and running and her but she’ll still go by her. Should I put the orpington in a kennel in the run during the day or wait...

Chicken with bald spot and maybe missing half her comb

Thank you so much for the thoughts and advice! She’s been normal today and is hanging out with all of the others so I’m optimistic! I’ll be keeping an eye on everything and how everyone is getting along though still. Hopefully it’s just that she has a male pattern baldness approach to molting 🙈😂...

Chicken with bald spot and maybe missing half her comb

Okay, looking at past photos her comb does look fully intact.. It just looked so small without her little tuft on top. Here’s a photo from about a month ago!

Chicken with bald spot and maybe missing half her comb

That is so reassuring to hear! I’m a newbie chicken lady so I’m hyper-vigilant and just want happy and healthy chickies! I just wasn’t sure if the sleeping in the nesting box was her getting “kicked out” of the roosting bars since she has always been in the top 3 for pecking order. Thanks for...

Chicken with bald spot and maybe missing half her comb

I noticed tonight that my BYM hen who is 28 weeks old, has a bald spot on her head and what looks like half her comb missing 😭 I hadn’t noticed anything unusual in the previous days except that yesterday when I went out around 5pm, she was hanging out in the nesting box and hadn’t laid her egg...

    Silkie Sexing

Hey all! So I hatched this beauty in early May. She/he was from a group of Paint Silkie eggs. Obviously has hard feathering so I was hoping to be able to sex her/him better because of it actually. I have another from the same batch that is crowing and the comb and wattles are red. This one’s...

Can I start putting the younger chicks in the coop?

I have three 13 week old hens (barnyard mix) and ten 8 week olds (5 Silkies and 5 Lavender Orpingtons.) I’ve had the brooder in the run for 2 weeks, 1 week of only supervised mingling and for the past week I’ve just let them be together all day except for when the bigger 3 go into the coop at...

    Hen or Roo? Barnyard Mix

Poppy (or Papí 😬😅) here is a barnyard mix. I’ve gone back and forth on whether it’s she or he. 12 weeks old. Thoughts? Bonus points for possible breed mixes?

Buff Orpingtons all looking like Roos?

I appreciate the response! I feared they would be. 😔

Buff Orpingtons all looking like Roos?

Chicks have been so hard to come by with everyone buying them out instantly in our area. We really wanted Buff Orpingtons and so I was able to snag these 3 from TSC 4 weeks ago as straight run. We live in town and, unfortunately, cannot have Roos. I know it’s early but I’m worries all three of...
