    ~Shipped Egg Early Spring Hatch-a-Long~

Today I set 12 Blue Andalusians shipped from My Pet Chicken. I must say, those were the most securely shipped eggs I've seen, and I've seen many. The significance for me is that the first chicks I ever hatched were Blue Andalusians, and my best hen ever was Una, a Splash from that hatch. Hoping...

Roo or Hen? Blue Wheaten Ameracauna - 5 Weeks

I have sinking sensation that this is a roo, but hoping that someone more familiar with the breed can tell me otherwise ... Thank you!

What kind and what sex is this?

Thank you for posting! I never would have guessed she was a she!

    What gender is this?

She looks like a hen to me, though her comb is good-sized. I had a black Silkie hen that looked almost exactly like her. The white egg could be hers or your Dorking's, but probably not the Ameracauna's.

I'm back on the bandwagon! I set my Rock Island eggs (from the Sacramento Grocery Co-op) on 1/9. All were fertile, but nine are developing well. A week or so prior, I set my first batch of Trader Joe fertile eggs. Nothing happened. I cracked two and they did not seem to be fertile. Too old...

Well, it's been a while! Here are my two grocery girls now! They started laying creamy beige eggs (a couple of shades lighter than the ones they hatched from) three weeks ago. They've hardly missed a day - every morning, the two eggs are waiting. I can really tell they're from egg-laying stock...

Well, it's been a while! I've been needing to follow up about how my grocery store chicks are doing! I hatched four, gave away the two cockerels, and kept the two pullets. They started laying creamy beige eggs (a couple of shades lighter than the ones they hatched from) three weeks ago. They've...

Count me one of the lucky ones. This is my follow up to an earlier post of my Rock Island babies. They are now three weeks old. Eleven of my eggs (out of a dozen) developed to hatch, but only four pipped. I ended up with two pullets and two cockerels. They are all white, but one pullet has a...

Three weeks old! Two cockerels and two pullets. They are all white, but one pullet has a single dark gray feather on her back. This was last weekend - one roo was definitely alpha, and was "starting stuff" all the time :) Now I've given both roos to our local feed store, where they sell...

Here they are! These are the Rock Island babies. Four hatched this weekend. One was waiting for me when I got home from work Friday - the four really did space out their hatches as well! So polite - allowed each other to finish. :) Eleven (out of a dozen) made it to lockdown, but just the four...

Here are my Dotties! Well, only one has a dot on its back - the others are solid pale yellow. Eleven developed to hatch, but only four actually did. I think it might be because my forced air incubator kept the air too dry ... I sold my still air "hatching" incubator last year. Anyway, I'm...

Is this too much comb at 8 weeks for a female?

I agree that your first pictured fellow is a fellow, for sure. However, Petey looks like a pullet to me. Cute babies!

Pele, thank you for these great photos! I love seeing them develop. I wouldn't be surprised if I end up with "Dotties" too. :)
