    Our first eggs!

We got our first eggs today! Super excited! We bought the chicks in March, how did they start laying so early? The thing is I just finish their nesting boxes yesterday and to my surprise we got two the next day!!

Help! We are trying to find a dog who can live with chickens but doesn't eat ALOT.

We have three dogs, a 60lbs plus black lab mix with Australian Shepard, a jack russell chihuahua mix, and a Pomeranian. We raised the chicks inside the house for 5weeks inside a dog cage, the dogs always can see and smell the chicks. Five weeks later we moved the chickens outside to their newly...

I'm assuming "apron" are an extra cloth that go under the coop spreading outward under the dirt or gravels? Should 6" or a foot will do the trick?

Wow I really don't know much about chickens and coop!!! I always thought the word "wire" are stronger than "cloth"...where can I buy the hardware cloth, would the place where I got the chicks has them?

I'm not sure if it is a predators proof coop. It will be a 4'x12' run enclosed with chicken wire and a 4'x4'x5' coop inside the run, it's one piece. I will take a look on the ventilation thread later, I'm sure two 2"x10" ventilation windows on the top will be efficient for five hens.

Yeah I was thinking about adding 1" of insulation material in hoping to cut down on the noise. Should I leave a slight gap on the bottom and maybe a rectangular window about hmmm say 2"x10" for ventilation and also a double panes window just for the sun light?

We live in a small corner lot approximately 8,000 square footage. The nearest neighbor are the one behind us slightly to the right side. Their second floor children's room is about roughly 35 foot away and the neighbor across the street are about roughly 125 feet away. How about sound proofing...

Thanks Enola. I was thinking to include a glass window for the coop, would that be a bad idea since I don't want them up early in the morning. I like sleeping in on the weekend and also don't want them to disturbed the neighbors with any noise.

Thank you Brady I will try talking to my neighbors about the chickens since they heard my hammer banging away while I was trying my best to built a nice coop for them. Good idea on the emergency preps! I hope the whole neighborhood can see the benefit of owning chickens and also since not...

Thanks TarahHalin. I'm feeling a lot better about the lot size, yes I will definitely give the neighbors some eggs just for being a good sport. Like I told NorthFLChick I'm more concern about the noises than anything else. I will always keep the coop clean, at least once a week. Ok back to the...

Thank you NorthFLChick. I will definitely surrender some of the eggs to the neighbors. I'm more concer about the noises than anything else since we live in a very quiet neighborhood. I guess I will have to wait and see how much noises they make once they're older.
