I guess I was leaning for the pass through to the meat.
Although I do free range my chickens & have even thought of feeding the Purina product. I do consume flax as part of my diet. I'm not sure how much is confidential at this point, but I will know in a few weeks.
Kansas State University has done research for the last 10 years and formulated a livestock feed for cattle that will pass the Omega 3 to the meat. I know Purina makes a fortified feed for chickens and hear about high Omega 3 eggs, but has any research been done as to passing this on to the...
I don't have any updated photo's, about 6 weeks ago I had a family of foxes wipe out about 2/3 of my chicken while they were free ranging during the day. The pullets from this cross layed a beautiful darker brown egg. Not as dark as a good BCM, but still dark. In the prior photo's there are a...
LOL, you made my day, cause I got a good laugh out of hat - so much my eyes teared up. I've only had him for a few days, so he's not allowed to free range yet. Oh, and maybe he's golden. :)
I'm bad at guessing, but it sure looked like part Delaware. The barring is coming out more - similar to a barred rock. My friend got him from a friend, and I just kind of liked his uniqueness.
Anyone have an idea what this guy could be a cross of? I've got him running with my Delaware right now, for protection mainly. The Delaware roo I hatched out lost the battle with a fox while trying to protect his harem.
There's a guy around here that makes live traps with a compartment at opposite end of door that can be baited with a live pigeon, banty, whatever. I caught 3 foxes in this manner. Compartments are made of really small squared wire, so now I also have 2 banties added to my flock.
Back in December 11 I posted photo's of some chicks from this cross. About a month ago they started laying. I am really satisfied with the egg I'm getting.
Egg on left is from the cross; middle is Delaware; right is the red sex link egg from a hen used in the cross.
This is a great thread. I hatched out some Sex Link x BCM cross in December & one evening thought it was a weird time for her to be laying an egg. Next day she was still missing (on the nest). After the 1st day I realized what was going on, so I placed 6 delaware eggs under her & she's been...
I've used a homemade incubator in the past, but bought a bunch of waterers & 3 used LG's early this spring. One is forced air & came with 2 turners - neither work (older model). I purchased a new turner, & while temp is steady, I find it a real pain compared to my homemade to keep humidity...
Just by size I was sure they were rouens. Doesn't matter to me really, but a year ago I thought I was buying Mallards. I didn't have any photos of when I bought them, so I got the next best thing. They are laying good right now & as it warms up hopefully they'll sit.
