Thanks for the warm welcomes. Yeah, subscribing sounds like the way to go - but even then, keeping up looks to be a challenge.

joining has been quick and easy. But looks like things move pretty darned fast around here (tried participating in the 'washingtonians' post) and keeping up may not be feasable....

    Turkey Size Question

We raised bronze breasted last year. Had one male and one female. We raised them on the same feed we fed our chickens. We got them in June and by 4months the male was 50lbs when I butchered it. We waited another month for the female, and she was 35lbs.

So if you are new vegie gardening...?

SO how strange IS it to have it in front of the porch? ANd we did have a 20'by 20' before kids (oldest is 13) and we couldn't grow corn. Is it hard or picky or high maintence or something? I like the idea. In fact, I pulled my rodies and stuff and replaced them with blue berry bushes. But I...

So if you are new vegie gardening...?

Yeah, I like making compost tea. I just have a few 5 gal buckets or rain water around and will put a feed sack with a few scoops of compost in it. Then fill it up and use it for feeding\\watering the garden a few times a week. When I compare what I grow in my SFG it blows away what my...

So if you are new vegie gardening...?

If you use an approach like SFG and use Mel's mix, there is no issue with weeds. You also dont' worry about room between plants and rows since you don't use rows. You never walk on your garden - just around it. Only time you get the hoe out is to work in a little compost. I haven't tried a...

So if you are new vegie gardening...?

Rabbit is great because you don't need to compost it. If you have been mixing it and keeping it slightly moist and just the right size (about a 4ft by 4ft pile if you were to dump it out) is should be fine to use. But hard to tell without looking. I would think the needles would be fine...

    Washingtonians

Is there an entry fee? I live just up the hill and could walk to it, but have never been to the poultry show... Monroe Farm and Feed is next door to the fair and that is where i get most of my stuff... I'm looking for about a dozen cornish cross chicks. Will anyone have those at the event...

So if you are new vegie gardening...?

I started my garded just a few years ago. I went with the raised garden approach based on the 'square foot gardening' principles. Worked awesome. I started with 2 4x8 beds just 6 inches deep. Did the SFG mix of peat moss, composte, vermiculate (details on the SFG site). I like the system...

    Washingtonians

Howdy. I'm another washingtonian (not waRshingtonian ). I live in Monroe just a mile up the hill from the fairgrounds. We have a backyard farm that includes: 2 goats (for milk) New coturnix quail project (for meat and eggs) Rabbits (meat) Ducks (eggs and meat) Chickens (eggs and meat)...

    Hygrometer

I don't think you can do that. Temp and humidity are not measured the same way. You need to get a hygrometer. I have units that have temp + humidity built in that cost 10-16 bucks at walmart, home depot, etc.
