I am in somewhat rural North Carolina in the US. Avian vets are hard to come by since most people around here don’t treat their chickens as pets. :( Thanks for your help—I appreciate you taking your time to answer my questions.
Sorry I think I posted this twice! Where are you located? I’m not sure they do implants around here. But I’ve started keeping her in the garage at night and turning off the lights early in hopes of fooling her body into not trying to lay.
Thanks—appreciate the advice. Pretty sure in her case she’s had some internal laying and that has led to sour crop. Her crop is still full and squishy but it’s been difficult to get anything to come up so I’ve quit trying that. But I know what’s in there needs to either come out or move through...
Hi—dealing with sour crop as well and wondering how your hen is doing. Also wondering what kind of probiotics and digestive enzymes you use—are they specific for poultry or just any kind? Thanks for any help!
Two nights ago I heard squawking in our chicken coop and ran out to find our two yr old EE rooster on the ground in the run with blood on his comb. All the hens were perched and nothing else was amiss. We picked him up and put him in a dog crate in the basement. I assumed that a raccoon or...
ok I put a towel in the dryer and wrapped her in that and gave her some warm sugar water. and I went to the drugstore and got some monistat cream and mixed a little of that in water and gave her that too. she's no better but maybe no worse. I want to at least try what I can.
I just don't know how much to try. I am willing to do anything to save her, but if its too late I don't want to make her even more miserable. She is almost unresponsive. I feel so bad. I just don't know when enough is enough.
And unfortunately I am not equipped to tube feed I don't think unless I can buy something from a store tonight. this is my first go round with a serious health issue. It is awful.
I need help please! I'm sorry if I ask questions that I'm sure have already been answered somewhere in this thread, but I don't think I have time to read it all. I treated my hen for sour crop earlier this week with probiotics in her water and electolytes. She perked up and her crop went down...
Thanks for the update! My girl is doing well too! Not sure if it was on this thread or another one, but I got the idea to give her a few drops of Polyvisol infant vitamin drops at least while she wasn't eating much and that really seemed to help. She didn't like it much but it seemed to make...
I'm having the same problem with one of my hens after a raccoon attack. She managed to get away with what appears to be injuries only to her comb and maybe an eye and lots of feathers gone. At first the eye was closed but now it's open and she seems to be able to see ok when it comes to getting...
