I know pine is the preferred wood but is fir shavings ok for a coop? My husband has a bunch of untreated fir that he can plane. Our chicks are 6 weeks and are about ready to be out of the brooder.
I’m just few weeks, we will be moving our 9 chicks to their coop and run. We live in eastern Colorado where it rains and hails in the spring and summer. What bedding do you prefer? I heard hay retains moisture so I’m not sure if that would be the best option. Pine is my first thought but...

We are looking into the deep litter method for our coop, I know DE is is not recommended if we go this route. I’m assuming adding DE to their dust baths also wouldn’t be a good idea. Are there any other things we can add to the dust bath to repel any unwanted pests?
She seems to be fine. Not lethargic, eating and drinking. The entire flock is happy and gets along well with everyone. I’m grateful they are happy and . I added electrolytes back into thrift their water so hopefully that should help things move around.

She seemed to be having a hard time pooping that’s why I thought she was constipated. We have been checking for pasty butts daily, they all are on a medicated chick feeder, I added some electrolytes to their water. The temp in the brooder is about 71*, (not under the heat plate).
