    i have a hen that wont leave her nest box but to eat ........ the box is at ground level ....she stopped roosting with the other hens , and now spends all her time in the nest box !!! im guessing she is broody , however , is it normal for them to spend the night in the nest box ? she lets me...

    why is dust bad ?

    i read on here that people use misters to keep down the dust cuz its bad for the chickens...why is it bad for the chickens ? my coop has a dirt floor , and since i fixed the roof from leaking it has gotten very dry in there.....tons of dust when they come down from roost or even just scratchin ....

    How far away from the house?

    my coop is 87 yards from my house ......not by choice , but it is working out well ! i dont always wanna get up at sunrise !! roos can get loud in the morning .... i can hear my neighbors and he is at least 2 football fields away !!!!!! the smell aint bad yet , (this summer will be my first) ...

    i use timothy grass hay in my coop ........ dirt floor ........ the hay never stays in a layer , they always scratch it over to one side ....they prefere the dirt floor i guess ...... im cleaning out my coop every 2 weeks ,,,,, fresh hay , scraping poo off of hard surfaces ....etc........ sounds...

    your coop looks great so far !!!!!!! im concerned about your back while cleaning the coop !!!!!!!! im 5'11" my coop is 12' tall !!! i aint bending over for 1 or 2 hours while cleaning the coop !!!!! good luck ...i hope you have a replacement for that back ...lol

    the hot dogs were a mistake .... my daughter put them in my scraps container and it was too late after i dumped the container into thier dish !!!!!! lol ...guess im chillin with bacon grease !!!!!
