    It looks like its from them sitting in their mess. Although we try and keep their cage clean these things poop alot. I'll try warm water and a cloth and try to clean them up.

    Being very new to raising chickens, I am curious how you know when it's time to "retire" a hen. When she altogether stops producing eggs? As for the meat being tough, I would guess that a suitable use would also be to grind the meat and use it for chicken tacos, burgers, etc...
