Thanks. I'm kinda new to posting and try to not step on toes. Anyway you can see the duckling with the Cayuga mom. My guess is she is actually from the Black Swedish mom. Third one is a Buff. They needed a new home and I had too many drakes. As you like pictures, here is Buffy.
I'm just really happy. Having broodies is just an amazing experience. Here is a proud mom of 1 dad is Ancona. Sorry I don't want to spam the thread, but it's my first time with broodies.
It's the second round for my for older girl chickens. The younger four were raised together with the Anconas. I got them from Boondocker last June, 8 Anconas and 4 Delawares. I was told by them that I could brood them together. They were in the same brooder but different coops now. They still...
My two good mothers are Anconas too. Parents are over painted. They are just so calm. I understand how unnerving quiet ducks can be. Only topped by screaming ducklings. Left one is from today. By now she has 7.
I also have 6 from one duck (Dark Wader) 2 weeks old and so far 5 from today from Nanni. She still sits on some eggs. The reason for the low hatch rate of the trio is mainly they are the worst mothers ever. I don't know how often I had to save the duckies. After one hatched they pretty much...
Okay, I'll jump in. I just had two ducks share a nest and third one very close to them. In the end they hatched only 3 but that is not the result of the co-hatching. Big baby is 3 weeks and the two tinys are one week. They co-parent and its so much fun to watch. I would let them do it again...
Thanks, she is a Delaware from our first batch, two Delawares and two Barred Rocks. We had the brooder indoors and as much as we and our friends were chicken watching, they were people watching. It was really funny to observe that.
Thank you all for the friendly welcome.
My wish for ducks and goats (and more chickens) was the main reason we moved last year to this property. We lived on half an acre but were only allowed four chickens. No rooster, no ducks and no goats.
Hello, I was lurking for a few month and thought it's time to introduce myself.
We live on one acre north of Portland. I got my first four chickens about four years ago. Currently we have 8 chickens and 10 ducks, mostly Anconas. I am dreaming of adding a couple of Oberhasli milk goats. In...
