Returning to Coop / Predators
No remains that I have found yet. A big pile of feathers under where he was roosting last night. No body parts though, just feathers. And a trail of feathers from there to across the fence, past a dirt mound, and then I lost the trail but I'm assuming into the tree line. I'll have to look again...- KF5IWR

Returning to Coop / Predators
Our coop sits right in front of a small grove of trees/brush. Our chickens would go in to roost every night until we found a rat snake in the coop the other week. After that, only 1 or 2 hens would roost in the coop and the others would roost in the trees right next to the coop. We tried...- KF5IWR

Just brought home flock - Question on roosting at night
We have about 3 sqft of space for each bird (3 hens and one rooster) and no run attached. So I can leave them in there for 2 days no problem. Outside the coop they have plenty of places to hide from hawks. We have a dachshund that we are taking out near the coop so she can get used to them but...- KF5IWR

Just brought home flock - Question on roosting at night
We recently moved to a chicken friendly area and a friend has been keeping our flock at her place until we were ready (she picked up 5 hens and a rooster and only needed 2 hens at the time). Cheap source of barrels in central TX?
I bought a blue 55gal barrel with a lid that screws off for $25 off of someone in Leander. Saw the ad on craigslist. The ones w/o screw top lids were a little cheaper. And she has a bunch. I haven't seen any for less than $15 (w/o screw top lids) around here but that doesn't mean they don't exist.- KF5IWR
