How do I know if my Americauna hen is mature?

Welp, ya'll were right! Not a true breed and most likely an EE which is totally fine. We've gotten about 7 mint green eggs from her over the last 1.5 weeks!!

How do I know if my Americauna hen is mature?

I spoke with the lady we got our girls from and she said she deals only with pure breeds from hatcheries so it is definitely and Americauna and not an EE. I just ordered a light for the coop that should arrive tomorrow. Hopefully that will help her move things along! I have a blue laced as...

How do I know if my Americauna hen is mature?

@sourland - if she is really an EE, is there a chance she won't lay a blue or green egg? I just read they can lay pink and brown eggs as well. We did get a brown egg yesterday and assumed it was from our BO since her wattle and comb are red and she is squatting every time we approach her

How do I know if my Americauna hen is mature?

You think she is an EE and not an Americauna? Is there a huge difference other than the blue vs green egg color?

How do I know if my Americauna hen is mature?

Slightly but nothing major. I let them out to graze yesterday while I cleaned to coop/run and I could not get the little stinker to go back in afterward! She squatted a couple times, but I don't know if it is just because she felt cornered, or she was actually doing the infamous squat. She is...

How do I know if my Americauna hen is mature?

Hi everyone, I am still pretty new at raising chickens and wanted to pick your brains! We got 4 hens when they were 5 weeks old and they are now just slightly over 28 weeks old. Our BR just layed her first egg 5 days ago (we've gotten 3 total from her so far!) and our BO just layed for the...

Can bad weather delay egg laying?

We don't have electricity in the coop, so there is not a light. We did hang some romain lettuce over the weekend and they loved it! AND, one of our girls started doing the infamous squat now when we approach her and/or try to pet her! So, hopefully we are almost there. The waiting game is hard!

Can bad weather delay egg laying?

Hi there, this may just be me being impatient, but our 4 girls are just about 23 weeks old, and have not started laying. Our buff and barred rock seem like they are close. They've got nice red combs and waddles and our barred rock has become extremely vocal when we approach the coop/run now...

    Army Worms are taking over!

Hi there! I am new to raising chickens, and am still trying to figure out the ropes. We got our 4 girls when they were 5 weeks old, and they are now 18 weeks old and close-ish to laying! Within this past week our neighborhood has somehow been taken over by Army worms. We started noticing them...
