    Broody Hen - 21 Days and nothing yet?

    Yes 4 out of 10 eggs. First time hen. I believe the low hatch rate was the result of using wood shavings for nesting material and some really cold weather that came the through. The eggs sunk into the saw dust, so I think they separated from the hen and got cold. They hatched on day 22 and 23.

    Thanks for your response. Day 23 this morning. 2 have hatched. Seems odd to me, but I guess this must be how it goes with a broody hen.

    Thank you....I just didn't know if this was common or not. I thought it was like clockwork - 21 days or the clutch was bad.
