Little red wasn't egg bound. We did an exam, realized acietes was the problem. She passed away whi(e we were draining her. The shock must have been too much.. poor girl. I wish we could have done more for her sooner... :(
I have a hen with mainly the same symptoms other than the fact her belly isn't squishy it's rather hard. She is trying to lay it seems. She's been eating some egg today and drinking some. How far might the egg be inside her vent? It actually sounds like there are eggs tapping against each other...
Thank you. I do have them a straight game bird feed now and I was giving them a little nutridrench in their water. I still have the hen isolated but her condition isn't getting worse, so I guess that isn't a bad thing.. I'm keeping an eye on them
No, I much appreciate your help. I was just saying hoping they had an update. I am looking for help from anyone with more knowledge than myself. I definitely appreciate the help. So what would you suggest other than moving the runs further apart? Should I wait until they stop laying then worm...
So worms will make these symptoms occur? Is this where I should start with her? Her poop seems normal. I don't have a problem worming although she's laying - I'd rather keep the bird healthy, she'll lay again.. I just wasn't sure if I should try the Hypericum treatment as it seemed like others...
They are in the same vicinity but not housed together. The runs are separated, but are near each other... They have been housed like they are for over a year.
I seem to be having the same issue with one of my Silver pheasants hens.. Noticed today she was having trouble holding herself up and walking right. Seem stumbles around a bit. She can stand and when she does walk without falling, she has quite a limp. I have isolated her and checked her for any...
The injection of penicillin in the foot? I was under the impression the injections were in the meat of the leg, alternating legs to prevent soreness? I just treated my roo with a course of penicillin and that is what I did. Was I mistaken in doing so?
Has he ever been wormed? I'm not an expert but from reading things on here maybe gapeworm? What's his poop look like?
Also, search respiratory illnesses. Check the symptoms versus his.. I'm sure someone else will know way more than me but it's something to start with.. If you think it's worms...
Being you are in west central Florida, could a bobcat be the culprit? I had a bobcat destroy my flock before I put them in a fully enclosed run. I'm in SW Florida. It killed all, leaving most behind. The others were mutilated and piles of feathers all around. The feces you found could be a good...
I've read that it shouldn't be more than 10% of the daily food intake or it could cause them to get fat and slow egg production as stated above. I've heard if they get to fatty internally it can cause trouble with them laying as well.
You said there is no active bleeding, but is she cut up or wounded in any other way?? If you were you clean her up a bit and put some Neosporin on her she'll probably be fine. Just be sure not to use the kind with pain relief in it. It is toxic to your hen. If she has wounds, it would be a good...
Got the penicillin for him and gave him a dose per the instructions on the link.. Next question - I understand he should be treated for 4 - 6 days, but how many times a day? Just once? Twice? Thanks in advance..
No, the other leg does not have a red streak. I am heading to the store to get some penicillin and needles and syringes. Thank you for the links with the info on the penicillin, great help. I was debating calling the vet and asking about a prescription for him but I'm sure this will be much...
