What age are chick safe outside in 20-degree weather?

Thank you! Do you think 60 watts is warm enough or should we get a warmer bulb?

What age are chick safe outside in 20-degree weather?

They aren't under a heat lamp, just the general temp of our home. Most are fully feathered, except our salmon faverolle, who is 7 weeks, but still appears to have some down on her belly.

What age are chick safe outside in 20-degree weather?

We have 6 chicks ranging in age from 6-8 weeks old. We would like to move them outside to their new coop, but the temperatures have been in the 20s at night and only in the 40s during the day. The coop is draft free and has straw they can nest in if so desired. The two older chicks have spent...

    Mysterious Deaths...Any Advice?

The roosters are about a year old, 11 of the hens are just under a year, and the other 6 are/were born the end of March. We didn't intend to have two roosters - one is a silkie and we were told it was female when we purchased it, but then about 2 months ago we discovered it was also a roo. It...

    Mysterious Deaths...Any Advice?

Thank you, that's good to know. We will go get some today. We had been putting nutri-drench in their water because a third bird from that same group of 6 was having eye issues (bubbling and swelling). That seems to have resolved itself at least.

    Mysterious Deaths...Any Advice?

Their coop is attached to their run and they have free access to it whenever they want. Both were found in the run (I always forget to specify and tend to refer to the entire enclosure as the coop). The run is 25x30 feet. Would heat still be an issue even out in the run?

    Mysterious Deaths...Any Advice?

Over the past 4 days, we have had two of our young chickens mysteriously die. On Thursday we left on vacation. On Friday, our housesitter notified us that one of our chickens had passed away. No signs of illness, no blood, nothing to indicate what could have happened. Today we returned home and...

The k Thank you, I will give that a try! Do I put it in her food or water, or what's the easiest way to make sure she gets it?

Sick Chicken - Seems to be paralyzed

Thank you! The place we purchased her from vaccinates for Mareks, is it possible she still could have gotten it? We have her removed from the rest of our flock, but she is close by them. None of them have shown any symptoms of having it as well (at least not yet).

Sick Chicken - Seems to be paralyzed

About 6 weeks ago, our relatively young Crested Cream Legbar (old enough for the coop but not laying yet) looked like she had an injured wing. She was dragging it on the ground and didn't seem to be able to move it. We tried wrapping it, but she kept managing to get it undone. About a week...
