    When is best and how should I bring my young chicks (5 weeks) into the coop with my 2 1/2 year old chickens. See pictures. The chicks are getting so big but worried about the older ones attacking the younger ones.

    We are first time chicken owners. The hens have started laying a few weeks ago and we are up to 8 eggs a day now! My husband built a great coop for our 8 mix-of-breeds hens. See picture. The problem is that they don't go inside to roost, they all huddles jammed together on the side outside area...

    Definitely not manufactured, my husband built it, not from a manufacture plan either. But good to know about how they may be close to egg laying.

    The coop is sufficient for the 8 chickens. The run is only under the coop (same size) as it is elevated. I am more concerned about them being mischievous and wandering throughout the neighborhood. We have over an acre and one side is fenced but they would be free to go anywhere.

I have a neighbor that will come over to provide food/water but worried about letting them free range all day when no one is at home, they get adventurous!
