Awww....that's great to hear! I spent 3 months climbing an 8 foot ladder every night into the tree to help my other chicken (the stray) get to a safe place. We had bought a new farm and weren't where we could put a coop up because our previous farm was already under contract. So every night I...
So I got behind on this thread but I'll update now. We actually adopted a hen for her over the weekend and the saga continues! I found a very reputable breeder that came highly recommended (and I agree she was great...so nothing bad to say about her) and she told me she had a hen that needed a...
So, a few months ago I had stray chickens show up and unfortunately before we were able to get a coop built we lost two of them to predators and we were left with our one and only who we adore and is currently on lockdown in her new coop. Although she has been doing great in her coop alone we...
Hi, I just brought home a new hen yesterday who is probably a few weeks before starting to lay. She came from a reputable place and looks very healthy and is eating but seems very very nervous at our place. She really wants to be with my other hen, she is laying or standing over by that side...
I do. My husband actually built a coop with chicken wire that wasn't my ideal version of a coop....as I described it, it's a chicken coop crate with no egg box or enclosed area....just a crate. I need to add a roosting area to it.

If you want to hear the story of me finding our girls, a local magazine wrote a story about me that included our chickens. http://www.gigglemagazine.com/a-day-in-the-life-of-kristen-cooper/
Oh good idea! I didn't think about the territorial aspect. Okay, I'll contact the farm that I know will have someone for her. Does age matter, like should I get one right around her age or could I get a younger/older one without it being a big deal?
Yes, we are in Gainesville, Florida. I actually have a couple of options for getting her a friend thankfully. She was actually perfectly happy on her own when free ranging because of the horses and she had really attached herself to me (as in she walked into her house a few times because she...
Back story (I'll try to make it quick).....I wasn't wanting chickens but three strays found me right as our farm went under contract and we had purchased a new farm and with no luck finding their owner and being the animal lover I am, I started watching out for them and they became my pets (they...
