Welcome! I still consider myself new to Oregon, and I've been here 12 years, lol. I'm still not used to the never. ending. rainy. season. :-) We do have the most gorgeous Spring time because of it, so I guess I'll just shut up! (those 50 ft Rhodies along the freeways are amazing!)
Check out Three Good Reasons Farm on Facebook. I know nothing about their farm, but they have all the breeds you're looking for, and sell chicks and hatching eggs, and will ship. They are located in Tenmile, near Roseburg. They will be at the swap.
Oh my! If my sweetie worked at a store that had chicks we'd be in BIG trouble! :-)
We are looking for 3 -- we were ok with straight run from the feed store, and hoping for 2 pullets and a cockerel (as I want fertilized eggs, eventually, and one of those nice roosters I keep hearing rumors...
There is a pdf on this page of the vendors listed at the Poultry Swap. It's interesting to see what breeds are popular in Oregon (lots of Silkies and Olive Eggers). I'm looking for Silver Laced Polish -- nada. zip. zilch. Oh well -- I'm fine with Coastal chicks, if they ever get them in...
Ours was about 4.5 weeks. We thought someone was being murdered in the bathroom, as it was about 1:30 am! It was the most pathetic crow, and we giggled insanely when we figured out what it was.
I'm not sure -- you can find her on Facebook, Baiviews Fancy Fowl. Judging by the name, it doesn't sound like the cheapest place to get layers. She has beautiful Silkies though!!!
I have great luck with my cheapie leghorns and barred rocks from Coastal in Springfield. They've been my go-to...
I've never done shipped chicks because I just could meet the minimum, and shipping was too much for me. I am usually pacing outside of Wilco or Coastal in Springfield, waiting for their first chick orders to come in. Eugene Backyard Farmer also has good breeds.
I'm SOOO jealous at the breeds...
If you advertise him as "pumpkin latte" colored, the hipsters around here would snap him up in a heartbeat! It's all about the marketing. :D Best of luck -- Seramas are in high demand. You're sure to find someone soon, they are adorable.
Even though it's winter, I'll bet you start getting eggs from both of them very soon. They are great little layers, and such funny birds. (But, man, can they fly!!! I find mine on the roof of the house all the time!)
My neighbors are all old farm gals. They were in raptures when one of my chicks ended up being a rooster, "I luurrrrve waking up to the sound of rooster again! It reminds me of back home!"
You might get lucky with your neighbors, too!
