I have not tried pulling the sheath off- I didn’t realize that I could!
Regarding depluming mites- I did treat everyone with equimax which contains ivermectin back when I first got them. Would that not be a high enough dosage for depluming mites? Also, none of the other girls are experiencing...
I just posted something similar because on of my girls didn’t grow the feathers back on her neck either! Have you had success getting your hen’s feathers to regrow?
My sweet girl Ruthie, an easter egger of unknown age (but laying consistently) has been missing her neck feathers for many months. We got her as a rescue in the spring and her feathers were intact. About a month after she had been with us, she lost her neck feathers and only has what looks like...
Thanks, Mary! I understand that those medications aren’t approved for poultry, but I do feel comfortable using them based on years of evidence of safety. I wish I had access to a vet that would provide a prescription for an approved med! (And I wish that there were more options for poultry)...
Thank you so much for the response @casportpony! One last question- I do sell the their eggs to my neighbors, what is the very safe egg withdrawal time?
Hi! I know this is an old thread, but I am hoping someone can give me advice.
I got a fecal test done for both my chickens and ducks and they came back positive for tapeworm (and I saw tapeworm in my duck’s pool).
I already treated the chickens with Equimax paste, but am wondering if the...
Hi all,
There is so much great information about deworming chickens on this site, but I am having trouble with finding information on ducks. Specifically an oral application, not in-water dosing.
I recently sent in fecal samples for both my chickens and ducks and both came back positive for...
Ah, I was looking into the pinless peepers… I’ll have to order some. How long do they generally need to wear them?
We have her separated right now, so we’ll continue with that plan! Thank you!
Unfortunately the roosting area we have for them now is just temporary, so she’ll need to eventually be able to roost with them. It is so tough dealing with the rude gals, I’m sorry you’ve had to as well.
Thank you for your thoughtful response. We definitely don’t want to put our flock in danger, and I agree that a mean hen isn’t really worth it. However, we took these ladies as a favor to a family member who could no longer care for them and she would be heart broken if we got rid of her. It’s a...
Hi all,
We recently added 4 adult chickens to our existing flock of 5- we had them in a fenced off part of the yard for 3 weeks, and have let them mingle in the 1/4 acre yard the last week. The two flocks are mostly just ignoring one another, but one of the new hens (a blue laced Wyandotte) has...
All the girls are molting right now, so their combs are paler, but I believe Goldie is an old gal (our chickens are rescues, so we don’t know ages). Everyone has pretty much stopped laying for the season.
If it is indeed a virus, what would the recommended course of action be? We actually...
