Official BYC Poll: How Long Have You Been Raising Chickens?

When my oldest started kindergarten his class hatched barnyard mix chicks meaning they were not any one breed rather a mixture of whatever chickens the farmer had. After hatching the farmer who supplied the eggs changed his mind and did not want the chicks. With no one to take them and me being...

Help!! Integration of chicks with hen

Hi guys, We lost one of our hens yesterday () and my remaining one ( we only had two hens) has never been alone and I feel horrible for her. We have 8 chicks in the brooder that are 6 or 7 weeks old today (unsure of age as they were given to us by my sons school and they didn't know either)...

Wondering if anyone can provide input now that I've uploaded individual pics. The small black one I am wondering if it could be an Easter egger? Thank you!

    Breeds? Sex?

I will try to get better/single pictures tonight! The sexing I was curious if you do agree on the welsummers because what i have heard is that they are easy to tell at a young age.

    Breeds? Sex?

Hi everyone! We just added 8 chicks to our family. They were given to us by my sons school so I am unsure of the ages, breeds and sex. I am fairly certain two of them are female and welsummers. I am sure you will be able to tell the two I am sure of. The others however I really am unsure. The...

    Both hens?

We got them from my sons class at school and the farmer they got the eggs from has many different kinds so we are not sure about the type. The combs do throw me because one almost looks like a cushion with a spike and the other less developed one looks like a single. I will try to get close up...

    Both hens?

These are my chickens. I believe they are both BA hens but one has more developed comb and wattles. What do you all think? Neither have given any eggs yet. Both hatched on May 20th. Also is it normal for BA's to have white spots?

    Laying issues

I also have one whose comb and wattles are much more pronounced than the other I was a little worried she was a he but I think they are just going to ride out the winter and will decide to give back in the spring. For now they are happy eating and playing all day.

    Laying issues

I hadn't heard of putting golf balls in. I will try that and see if it sparks anything. Otherwise I will just let them wait out the winter.

    Laying issues

Hi everyone! I have two BA's they hatched on May 20th this year and I still haven't gotten a single egg from either of them. I am fairly certain I do have hens and I know it can take a bit for them to mature and lay but I thought I would have seen something by now. There is the possibility of...
