Did you find her a home? I'm in San Diego and have space. I just hatched 6 Whiting true blues.
As an aside, you wouldn't happen to have pictures of her as a chick would you? She is beautiful and I'm curious if my favorite chick might look like her eventually.
After my egg turner scare I am so happy to report that 6 of my initial 12 eggs hatched out heathy chicks. 2 were duds and pulled on day 7, one more stopped developing at day 14 and the remaining 3 stopped developing somewhere between days 14-21.
I'll post more pictures once they are all fully...
Thought I'd give an update. I had what I believe is a successful average hatch. 6 of my 9 eggs hatched. I started with 12 originally, 2 were duds when first candled on day 7, one more stopped developing when candled on day 14.
I discovered my egg turner failed to turn for about a 12 hour period on day 14. This is only my 2nd time incubating eggs and the first time I turned all eggs manually. I tried to candle but my light is not bright enough to really show me what is going on inside the egg (it is a light in the lid...
I had considered the hardware cloth, but predators would have to work very hard to even get to my coop (double perimeter fence, one of which is electric and we have two large dogs). I'm only really threatened by hawks and coyotes here. Not rural enough for much else, I have a trail cam set up to...
Absolutely. I will winterize it when the time comes. Luckily we live in San Diego, so very few rainy days or nights here. I'm saving feed bags to make covers for all openings I can add/remove as needed.
I finished upcycling a child's playhouse into a new coop and it only took one day!
Finished dimensions are 66"H x 73"W x 66"D with 16 linear feet of perches inside. It's tall enough for me (5'1") to stand up inside.
I found the playhouse for free on Facebook, brought it home, pressure washed...
Thanks I will! Are external links allowed? I have a video of my current set up here:
Bringing home a large plastic play house to give additional space for roosting/laying options.
Thank you! I ended up buying supplies that are somewhere in the middle. The perches are about 2 inches wide but the edges are rounded, not squared. Will build this weekend.
Hi everyone, new member in San Diego.
Happy to be here to share ideas and learn more.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I got my little flock in early 2020, just before Covid
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? I have 1 rooster, 6 hens and 12 eggs in my...
