yeah, probably in the egg. When they're out the cheep is actually quite loud! A couple of days ago my broody hatched her eggs and I was inpatient and peeked under her and there was one really smooshed up egg ( always when I've hatched eggs before they are pretty much neatly in halfish!) I felt...
Oh WOW! what gorgeous chookies everyone has.
Here's some of mine
this wee one was born 2 days ago.
this is Mavis a GLW who was broody and hatched them all
Edna, a SLW
roosting up the tree! We've got a lovely house, but they love the tree. ( no foxes etc here)
A minorca, Millicent
Well, so far so good! Mum is out on the grassy bit and 4 of the chicks were down immediately, the last 4 followed not that long after. So they're all scuffling around in the sun. I've been out just looking at them so many times I'll just have to make sure that they all follow her back at bed time.
I think you may be right. He's not for showing or anything. He just hatched like this last summer, out of 4 all 4 were boys and a couple of them had rose combs ( is that the same as a pea comb? I was so hoping for at least one girl. They are incredibly hard to get in NZ unless you hatch them...

we don't seem to have quite the same variety. Small country I suppose? But the ones with all the lovely different colours on them ~ I've never seen one of them here at all. They're gorgeous.
Yeah New Zealand is pretty amazing. I've lived here for 6 years now, I'm originally from Scotland.

Don't know where you heard that but welcome to the Araucana thread! We don't get many UK type Araucana owners here, it's nice to see a little global diversity. Seems Lavender is a really common color there? Almost all Araucanas I see these days from Aussie or the UK are Lavenders...
Hi everyone, I've got a lovely Araucana boy called King Bertie.
He's just become a daddy for the first time.
I had heard that araucanas could be a bit skittish, but since he was hatched I knew he was a keeper as he's so gentle. He loves getting cuddles!
thanks guys. I think I'll just open it to see what mum does - at least she can go down and poo rather than do it in the nesting bit. I've been using a cat litter 'spade' to clean it out each day!! I'll let you know how I get on.
