    Hen dropped dead....

I have no idea what happened. She was fine and then an hour later I find her like this! No signs of anything wrong with the others. Can't see anything wrong with Carol the deceased hen and she was only 1 year old. I'm going to give the coop and run a good cleaning and put ACV in their water...

What to expect when 2 broodies are expecting...

Hello! Looking for some insight on the behaviour of my two first time broody hens. They both went broody for the first time last week and I initially gave them 3 eggs each to sit on. I had to buy them from someone with roosters. Anyways, 2 got broken in the first week. I dont have a set up that...

    Crested Cream Legbars

But I never asked for your input on laws or if I should even own chickens or if I should have just bought sexed chicks. I asked if people thought 3 unfertile eggs was fair for what I paid and if they thought I was right about the sexes of my chicks. You offered all kinds of unkind words that...

    Crested Cream Legbars

So this is a bit of a long winded and multifaceted post. I bought a dozen crested cream legbar hatching eggs from a local breeder (so no shipping involved) and they were $70 CAD. When candling on day 7 it was clear that 3 eggs weren't fertilized. The other 9 were developing perfectly though...

First Time Hatching - Questions and Concerns on Day 20

Sounds like a lovely bunch! I ended up with 8/9 hatching. They are creasted cream legbars and that breed is autosexxing. I got 6 roosters :(

First Time Hatching - Questions and Concerns on Day 20

I've got 4 pips now so I think I worried for nothing. Lots of chirping too. Glad to hear you've got some pips now too. Try and sit on your hands! lol

First Time Hatching - Questions and Concerns on Day 20

Hello! I'm on day 19 with the same concerns you have. Worried about my humidity and the size of the air sacs on lockdown. They were all alive at lockdown though. Any updates? Have you had any pips since this morning?

    Black copper maran/mix

Yes 1 and 4 are pretty certainly roos. 2 is very likely a hen. The rest look like their combs could be "roostery" but they're so much less developed than 1 and 4 so I'm not sure... 5's comb is pretty red and it has some little red waddles coming in too.

    Black copper maran/mix

Some are pure maran and some are a mix. They're 4 weeks old and I know at least 2 are roosters. Tell me I have at least 2 hens out of the 6. I had 17 hatch but only kept 6 because I live in a more urban setting. Now I'm wishing I had kept them all to keep just hens but no one wants month old...

    Tomatoes

Thanks! This is all very good to know. I've never seen them eat any leaves. I've just noticed some nibbled fruit. They eat a lot when the kids feed them to them. We will give it a break and give them different treats for a while.

    Tomatoes

Can chickens eat too many tomatoes? There havent been any issues yet but they eat A LOT of tomatoes. The garden is full and my kids love feeding them tomatoes. I suspect they've helped themselves a time or two as well....

    New egg colour?

I think this is what happened!

    New egg colour?

    Here is my meager flock.

    New egg colour?

The possible mixes is too many to list but the one is a sizzle and the other appears to be a polish/silkie. I'm sure of their age. I hatched them myself. They were 16 weeks old 2 days ago. They're significantly smaller than my other 2 and neither have a comb yet. They also hatched from eggs much...
