It is a sort of a run, that's just under it. My chickens roam my yard morning till night, I have their run's door open at all times, my yard is fenced and no other pets. I am attaching a picture to make more sense.

gale65 We live in Northern Utah and it does get cold here with some snow. The door is not the only door in the coop. If I close it off then the chickens don't go under the coop at all to have more space. Should that be ok on cold snowy days? I just want them to have more space to stretch and not...
PAChickenChick2 Thank you so much for the link! I will read that right now! =) The coop is actually in the good spot, it's protected completely from the north side by part of our house with the fence on east and south sides. So maybe I will put the plastic on the northwest side and see how it...
And I know I am a little early to worry about the winter, but I am busy for the next 2 months and just have to know what to face when the time comes instead of researching it at the last minute! Thanks again! =)
Thank you all! The plastic around the bottom of my coop sounds like a must as well as a clear type of tarp around the coop to close off all the little openings in between the wood. I appreciate all the advice!
You are my hero!! One day I will build my own coop!! =)
I am interested in your pop up door! I have an opening in the floor of my coop like yours but I do not have a door. I am not sure yet what to do with it in the winter and would like to see the closer picture of your door please so I can...
Thank you so much for your reply! I am planning on shutters over the top open window most likely made out of plexiglass. As for the buttom - if I leave the door in the floor open, should I attach clear plastic to the sides of the run to protect it from wind and snow? We live in Northern Utah and...
I think pine shavings are the best for the inside of the coop where they poop while sitting on their perches. It absorbs their droppings and it makes it easier to clean up. I throw the pine shavings with their poop in the garden pit to eventually mix it in with my garden soil. Are they going to...
I have a question I asked in another thread but I decided to start my own and maybe get an answer.
I am trying to figure out what to do with my coop in the winter. I have a door on the side with a ramp and also have an opening in the floor of the coop with another ramp that takes the chickens...
Does the coop itself have pine shavings in it? I had the same question when I started my little chicken farm =) What to put in the little run under the coop?? I started with straw but they scratch so much and it made a huge mess in the first 3 days that I had them locked up in the coop to get...
