FURTHER UPDATE:
Little Crumple seems to have rallied and is happily pottering about the garden with her friends again!
I am still unsure what was wrong with her but the treatment I gave was as follows:
A couple of espom salt baths, a very gentle rinse up the vent (paying particular attention to...
Just a quick update,
I checked her to see if i could feel any kind of blockage, but there was none. I now think whatever it is it's terminal. So, she's back out in the garden for now, eating and drinking okay, and enjoying a little potter about, but she's still dozing often. The others aren't...
"Has she recently been laying eggs?"
Its hard to tell, as I'm not sure which hens lays which eggs, but I am only getting 2 a day from 5 hens, so I wouldn't be surprised if not.
"Can you insert a finger into her bent one inch to check for a stuck egg. If there is no egg, it should just feel...
1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)
Approx 2 year old ex-battery. She's seems thin, I can feel her breastbone.
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
Over the past two weeks or so I noticed her looking quite rounded and wide...
This was from today, after I'd helped her to vomit and given her some yoghurt. It has been weeks since there was that much white her poop, it's just usually the watery bits and the dark green lumps.
Hi, thanks for your reply.
Although i was uncertain about her having sour crop, when i picked her up to give her an epsom salts bath after posting my message a little water splashed from her beak. I helped her to vomit up the contents of her crop, it smelled bad and there was quite a lot of...
Hi,
Anyone got and ideas about this?
Shirley is an ex-battery hen, probably about 2 and a half years old. A month ago, whilst she was our last remaining hen, she developed some real mouse catching skills. She embarrassed us when we had friends round by swallowing (a dead) one whole in front of...
Hi,
Thank you for all the helpful advice! That's brilliant! I'll see what other options are available in terms of more appropriate feed for her. Meantime, I've been adding yoghurt and cinnamon (Iread somewhere that it helps ease diarrhoea) to her catfood (yummy???) and today there did seem to be...
Hi all,
On the 7th April one of my hens (whilst relaxing under the kitchen table!) had a sudden and very noisy diarrhoea poo, it was black and very nasty looking but, since it didn't seem to put her mood up nor down, I just assumed it was something she had eaten (my neighbour had put out bird...
A big thank you to everyone who took the time to reply and help me with this. That's her gone now. She was as cosy and comfortable as I could make her, all snug in a bed made of a cardboard box full of towels in the sunny warm greenhouse. I went to check on her about half an hour ago and she'd...
Thanks for the advice. Her abdomen feels fine, I think. Soft and and squashy, not firm like a basketball (like with ascites). I did think she might have some sort of fatty liver disorder, she is a big hen and the symptoms seemed consistent. I just didn't expect her to sink so fast. She's really...
Thanks fot the help. I think you are right. her crop and belly feel fine, crop a bit empty perhaps, but not surprising given how little shes eaten. :( I'll order some Corid, but I don't think she will be around long enough to try it. :( Still giving her drops of vitamin tonic, and keeping her...
