My friend did walk around her neighborhood looking for anyone with chickens. I will quarantine her for 4 weeks. I really don't know that I have use for a rosecomb bantam, but maybe she'll be happy free-ranging with my small flock once the quarantine is over. Thanks for all the help and advice!
Thanks! I don't know if it is a rosecomb. My friend found it in her yard. We aren't sure what to do with it. I have two hens and a rooster, but I just started raising chickens last summer, so I'm still learning. She doesn't really want to turn it over to animal control, so she's asking me what...

can anyone tell me if this is a hen, please? I am having difficulty uploading it to the thread here for some reason, so just linked to my album. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have been really tempted to let them free range while I'm at work. I only work about 3 miles away. I did notice over the weekend when they were out all day that they stayed close to each other and someplace to hide. They mostly like the front deck area where there are plants, dirt baths, and...
Did you try it? How'd it go? Mine were outside about 7 hours until I left and they did really well. They mostly hung out up by the house were there are bushes and perennials. They enjoyed dirt baths, shade, weeds, bugs and who knows what!
Mine are outside all morning here so far, and they are definitely wandering a little farther than they have in the afternoons! They are staying together though and within the yard. I think they're just exploring to find what might be good to eat!
I think it's smart to start letting them out for short periods of time. I'm doing that now with my 7 week old chicks. Someone suggested to let them out late in the day to make sure that they learn to return to the coop at night. It seems to have naturally worked out that way for us, because I...
I have 9 chicks that are 7 weeks old. I am nervous about letting them free-range while we are at work, so I've been letting them out when we get home from work, which is only about 2 hours before sunset at this time of year. They seem to really love being free in the yard, and I love watching...
The two on the left are Welsummers. They are supposed to be hens but I'm not sure yet, how can you tell at this age? They are 4 weeks old in the photo.
my black Ameraucana 4 weeks old.
This is a blue Ameraucana - 4 weeks old.
Any thoughts on sex of these beauties? I'm new to keeping chickens and hoping for more hens than roosters, but don't know how to tell. I have one more blue Ameraucana, which I need to try to get a better photo of.
