    What did you name your chicks ?

    I try to come up with generally old-fashioned names that match their breed name or their looks. For example, my black polish has a mop of white feathers on her head, so she is “Phyllis”, as in “Phyllis Diller” (ok, I’m old!). “Mabel and Martha Marans”, “Violet” (lavender Ameracana), “Ruby”...

    Why are costco brown eggs so incredibly dark?

    My cuckoo lays the most beautiful pecan-colored eggs, some of which are spotted. She’s 9 months old and lays 5 eggs/week.

    Wonderful ideas! I can't wait to try some of the things I never considered, such as the tire (or bin) for dust baths, hanging CD's, and plastic mirrors. My chickens are entertained daily by my ever-changing compost piles, but I haven't tried these. Thanks for sharing.
