    Injured chicken info

One of my silkie bantams got brutally pulled out of the coop I was rebuilding last week by my husky. I honestly thought she was dead but she wasn't. I cleaned out her wounds with peroxide and put neosporin on them. She had her ride side and thigh completely ripped up and a punture wound through...

    Hot days

You probably could mix ice or even freeze some yogurt and use the frozen yogurt in place of the ice so it doesn't water it down. That's how I make regular smoothies sometimes.

I just bought corn and different types of berries at the grocery store so I definitely plan on trying them.

That's actually the opposite of what I've read on bananas! Haha. I've seen not to give them peels but that the banana itself is a good source of potassium for them. I haven't tried cucumbers with mine. They didn't like yellow squash or carrots but of course I'll try again.

    Sand or pine shavings?!

If I did sand, it would be in the coop and possibly part of the run, like a chicken sandbox. The pine shavings now just get everywhere and when they get wet from the water its pretty gross.

You could try mixing other fruit in too. I haven't tried doing that yet.

    Sand or pine shavings?!

What works better?! My chicks will go in the big coop in a few weeks and I'm trying to figure out what to use. They're on pine shavings now and they get it in everything but seem to enjoy it.

    Hot days

On super hot days (and just as a treat) I make 'chicken mash'. My chicks love it! I take plain yogurt and a refrigerated banana and mash it together. Then I mix in some of their regular crumble food. Its kind of a paste texture but its great to keep them cool and hydrated.

    Keeping chicks calm

So my chicks are 2 weeks old now and we are just starting to get thunderstorms this week. I didn't check on them tonight during the thunder because it wasn't too bad and they're pretty good with loud(ish) noises that aren't right next to the brooder. I was just wondering how to keep them calm if...

    best way to mark chicks?

I have elastic bands, but they're bantam chicks so the bands are still too big and probably will be for a few weeks. I've read about food dye and washable markers but what's your best advice for marking chicks to identify them?

    keep your babies calm

They love it. I'll walk out to check on them and they starting chirping and running around to see me but then they snuggle under the heat and feathers when I leave. I had a friend that used it for baby ducks and said it worked great.

Not directly under it but on the same side of the brooder. I'll take a picture when I go check on them.
