    Pink feathers on Pekin

Hi all, Just wondering what is going on. One of our pekins seems to have missing barbs from the tips of her wings, and we're not sure why. Its affecting both wing tips. The same is also happening on the tail, which you can see in the background of the 1st picture - except the shaft seems to to...

Are these eggs ok to eat?

Tahai, our female Pekin gets a bit broody, and we found her sitting on her nest a few nights ago. But during the day she leaves them completely alone. I didn't think Pekins were particularly broody, so without an incubator we still wouldn't get any ducklings (which is a good thing at the...

Are these eggs ok to eat?

Yeah i'm in Australia, so our temps at the moment are around -5 to 12 degrees celsius. We have no problem eating the fertilised ones - as they won't be developed at least for a few days. We collect them usually every second morning and store them in our fridge at 4 degrees celsius.

Are these eggs ok to eat?

Thanks for the info. We've got about 6 already in the fridge, but weren't sure what to do with them.

Are these eggs ok to eat?

I have two Pekins (about 6-7 months old). Apple, the female, has recently started laying eggs. A few issues: 1) its winter here in Canberra, and most nights its below zero degrees. I didn't think she'd lay during winter, although they seem warm enough as they still sleep in their ponds...

    Is Canberra too cold?

We have two Pekins, now about 9 weeks old. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/622377/ducklings-and-building-a-duck-house/10 We live in Canberra where it drops below 0 (celcius) degrees (32F). With the wind, apparent temp can be up to -5 degrees (23F). The ducks have a medium sized dog...

Ducklings and building a duck house

Not its a 200l square pond I got from a hardware store. I wouldn't want to leave it unsupported - i.e. there's no way to tip the water out (like the smaller 50l clam shell style pools) - hence why the pond is raised, and a draining system put underneath. Its not very sturdy - easy to cut through...

Ducklings and building a duck house

We've figured out a way to get them up - water melon (they'll eat one whole is we let em at it). Went to Aldi (they had whole ones for $0.49/kg - all sold out)

Ducklings and building a duck house

Haven't been back - busy trying to get the whole thing up and running. I did end up going to Metal Mart, where the guys gave me the 30 metre 900 wide 75x50mm squares, 2.0mm thick welded mesh for the same price as the avarian wire... much more fox resistant. Also picked up some cheap corrugated...
