The folks from the quail forums said the quail could live in a contained quail house within the chicken area but not free range. I can see why, my new quail are quite spazzy compared to my lovely hand raised ladies lol
I haven't tried them yet but I will soon, wasn't sure till just a bit ago whether they're male or female (the other two that is) and how to go about telling if they were fertile or not. I've spoken to several folks that have tried them and they tell me they're little bundles of wonderfulness :-)
Hi all! I've already shared my first eggs from my beautiful rirs, red comets and ee's, recently though, I brought home three texas a&m quails that were surrendered to the humane society I work at. I wasn't expecting anything but to give them a good life for the rest of their life... Well...
I really need to read up a bit more on quail, I've gotten the very basics but you guys have been just amazingly helpful as usual! I think in the next week or so I'll go ahead and sex them, I would really like to know. If I do find that one of them is male how should I start the incubation...
Well I'm still not sure who the female is and what the other two are but I do know I'm getting one egg every day. They are beautiful eggs! I haven't tried any yet but I've heard they taste fantastic just not sure I'm ready to crack one open and find a little quail inside lol
I'm going to let them unwind a bit before I start picking them up. They have been so stress with moving them into the shelter, me moving them to my house, moving them into their new temp home, I just wish I would have thought about checking the vents during all their relocations!
Good morning BYCers!
Recently three Texas A&M quail were anonymously surrendered at the Humane Society where I work. Having chickens, of course, I decide to bring them home with me after doing a bit of research. I've tossed around the idea of raising quail but really hadn't planned on it for...
There are only 3 out of 23 hens with the small raw spots on their cushion. As careful as I am and with only three of them with the issue I didn't think it would be mites even if thats the only picture I found that was somewhat close to what my girls look like and hence the reason for posting...
I'm pretty fanatic about keeping my girls clean. They are dusted for mites, the coop is constantly cleaned and dusted as well as the yard. When I first saw one with the raw spot I cleaned everything up and dusted again. The only ones that have the raw spots are a couple of my Araucanas but not...
Some of my girls have developed "raw" spots on their cushions. I did some research and found a picture of mites in my chicken health for dummies book but there are no eggs like in the picture. If it were mites wouldn't all my girls have them and as you can see in the pictures below, some have it...
